Job description

Howard James Recruitment is supporting our client with the appointment of an IT Systems Developer. This is a varied opportunity for someone who enjoys combining software development with broader IT support and problem-solving.

The Role

Working alongside our client’s existing IT team, you will contribute to the development and improvement of business systems, support the technical side of an e-commerce platform and help resolve day-to-day IT issues across the business.

The role would suit someone who is comfortable working across different technologies and enjoys understanding how systems can be improved, rather than focusing solely on writing code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance internal business systems, primarily using Python.

  • Support the technical and backend aspects of the e-commerce platform.

  • Contribute to website improvements, implementation and performance initiatives.

  • Work with an external development partner to discuss requirements and support delivery.

  • Investigate and resolve technical issues involving networks, internet and Wi-Fi, routers, switches, computers, laptops and printers.

  • Provide general hardware and software troubleshooting across the business.

  • Use AI-assisted development tools appropriately to explore ideas, solve problems and improve productivity, while applying sound technical judgement.

Requirements

Our client is open-minded about background and is more interested in technical aptitude, curiosity and a practical approach to problem-solving than in a particular career path.

You may be a junior developer with strong general IT knowledge, an IT support professional with development experience, an early-career Python developer, or someone with practical skills gained through an apprenticeship or degree. More experienced developers who enjoy working across a broad range of areas are also encouraged to apply.

  • Genuine working knowledge of Python and core programming principles.

  • An interest in learning new systems and technologies.

  • The ability to investigate problems methodically and suggest effective solutions.

  • Comfort working across both software and hardware.

  • Good communication skills and the confidence to discuss technical requirements and ideas.

  • Experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML/CSS or e-commerce platforms would be useful, but is not essential.

Specific experience with our client’s systems is not required, as training can be provided to the right person., If you have a broad technical outlook, a solid foundation in programming and the curiosity to keep learning, Howard James Recruitment would be pleased to hear from you. Please submit your application for consideration
