Job description

Role Description The Senior Software Engineer will design, develop, and maintain software solutions that support CSF’s scholarship management, data reporting, and operational workflows. This full-time, remote includes collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, architect scalable systems, and implement secure back-end services and APIs. The engineer will write clean, maintainable code, perform code reviews, optimize performance, and ensure reliability and data integrity across applications. Day-to-day responsibilities also include troubleshooting production issues, integrating third-party systems, contributing to technical documentation, and mentoring other engineers. The role offers the opportunity to build technology that directly enhances CSF’s ability to serve students, families, and partner organizations.

Requirements

  • Strong foundation in Computer Science, including algorithms, data structures, and software architecture.
  • Proficiency in Software Development and Programming with modern languages (Python, JavaScript, html).
  • Experience in Back-End Web Development, including RESTful APIs, databases (PostgreSQL), and security best practices.
  • Advanced skills in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and designing reusable, modular components.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
  • Background in designing and deploying applications on cloud platforms (e.g., Jenkins, docker, Ansible) is beneficial.
  • Ability to analyze requirements, propose technical solutions, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Prior experience in nonprofit, education, or mission-driven organizations is a plus.

About the company

Company Description Children’s Scholarship Fund (CSF), founded in 1998 by Ted Forstmann and John Walton, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for children from low-income families. CSF provides tuition assistance for students in grades K-8, helping families access high-quality educational options that might otherwise be out of reach. Since its inception, CSF has awarded more than $1.23 billion in scholarships to 224,252 children across the United States. In the current school year, over 38,700 children are using CSF scholarships nationwide, including more than 6,400 students in New York City. CSF’s impact is made possible through the commitment of donors, partner programs, and families who share in the cost of tuition.
