Job description

The IT Cloud Cybersecurity Architect sits within the Infrastructure organization and owns the technical architecture of Ingersoll Rand’s PaaS and SaaS cloud footprint across Azure and AWS - designing scalable, resilient platform patterns while partnering closely with the cybersecurity team to ensure every architecture decision is secure by design. This role bridges infrastructure engineering and security, translating business and application requirements into cloud architecture standards that IR can build on for years to come., * Design and evolve enterprise PaaS and SaaS cloud architecture patterns across Azure and AWS, including landing zones, networking, compute, and platform services.

  • Define architecture standards and reference designs for cloud-native and hybrid workloads, ensuring scalability, resiliency, and cost efficiency across the platform.
  • Partner closely with the cybersecurity team to embed security, identity, and compliance requirements directly into architecture designs from the outset.
  • Evaluate and select PaaS/SaaS platforms and services (e.g., database platforms, integration services, application hosting) to meet evolving business and application needs.
  • Lead technical design reviews for new infrastructure and application projects, ensuring alignment to enterprise architecture standards and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with network, cloud platform, and DBA teams to ensure architecture decisions integrate cleanly with existing infrastructure and operational practices.
  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation, diagrams, and decision records to guide engineering teams and support audits or reviews.
  • Stay current on emerging cloud architecture patterns and platform capabilities, recommending adoption where it advances IR’s technology roadmap.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture roles, with hands-on design experience across PaaS and SaaS services in Azure and/or AWS.
  • 2+ years of experience in cloud networking, landing zone design, and platform architecture patterns at enterprise scale.
  • 2+ years of experience partnering with security or cybersecurity teams to build secure-by-design architecture.

Core Competencies

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration, particularly with cybersecurity, network, and platform engineering teams.
  • Ability to balance architectural rigor with pragmatic delivery timelines.
  • Ability to translate business and application requirements into scalable, well-documented technical architecture.
  • Clear communicator, able to present architecture decisions and trade-offs to both technical and business audiences.
  • Self-directed and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in a remote setting.

Preferences

  • Industry certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Solutions Architect, CISSP, or CCSP.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, ARM/Bicep) for repeatable architecture deployment.
  • Familiarity with identity and access management (e.g., Microsoft Entra ID) and its role in secure architecture design.
  • Experience with compliance and security frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST, CIS) as they relate to architecture decisions.
  • Experience in a global industrial manufacturing or OT-adjacent IT environment.
