Job description

A global bio-pharmaceutical company is seeking a highly-skilled Microsoft Fabric Platform Engineer to join their Data Platform team! This is not a traditional Power BI Developer or Data Engineer role - the team works with Microsoft Fabric at the platform and engineering level, building custom tooling and automation on top of Fabric, exploring new platform capabilities, and helping shape how Fabric is used across the organization. This individual will work extensively with Microsoft Fabric APIs, semantic models, TMDL, Python, Semantic Link (SemPy), and Semantic Link Labs, developing tools and frameworks that interact directly with Fabric workspaces and artifacts. The role is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys understanding how platforms work under the hood, experimenting with new technology, and turning APIs and emerging platform capabilities into reusable engineering solutions. This is an immediate, ongoing long term contract opportunity based in Latin America with the expectation being to work US EST working hours.

What You’ll Do

  • Build internal tools, libraries, and automation around the Microsoft Fabric platform and APIs.

  • Work with Microsoft Fabric REST APIs to manage, inspect, automate, and integrate Fabric artifacts and workspaces.

  • Programmatically interact with Power BI / Fabric semantic models.

  • Work with TMDL (Tabular Model Definition Language) to inspect, generate, modify, validate, and deploy semantic model definitions.

  • Use Semantic Link (SemPy) and Semantic Link Labs to interact with semantic models and Fabric metadata from Python.

  • Develop Python-based utilities, frameworks, and services that extend the capabilities of Microsoft Fabric.

  • Design integrations and APIs around Fabric platform functionality.

  • Automate platform operations such as deployments, validation, metadata extraction, testing, monitoring, and environment management.

  • Investigate and prototype newly released or preview Microsoft Fabric capabilities.

  • Build proof-of-concepts and determine how emerging Fabric features can be incorporated into the wider data platform.

  • Work with APIs and metadata from multiple Fabric workloads, rather than focusing on a single area of the platform.

  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Power BI developers, platform engineers, and other technical teams.

  • Contribute to engineering standards, reusable libraries, documentation, and platform architecture.

More important is an engineering mindset and an interest in understanding platforms deeply.

  • Are comfortable working in areas where established patterns may not yet exist.

  • Like building tools that enable other engineers and developers to work more effectively.

What Makes This Role Different

Our Data Platform team operates close to the edge of the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.

Rather than simply consuming Fabric capabilities, we frequently build on top of the platform itself.

This can involve creating custom deployment and validation tooling, interrogating semantic model metadata, automating workspace operations, building internal APIs and developer tools, evaluating newly released Fabric features, and developing frameworks that make Fabric easier and safer for other teams to use.

As Microsoft Fabric continues to evolve rapidly, part of the role is effectively engineering ahead of established best practices: experimenting, understanding new capabilities, and turning them into robust solutions that can be adopted across the organization.

Requirements

  • Strong Python development skills.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Fabric, particularly beyond standard report or pipeline development.

  • Experience using Microsoft Fabric REST APIs or related Power BI/Fabric APIs.

  • Experience designing and consuming REST API’s

  • Experience managing deployments and Git integration in Fabric.

  • Understanding of Power BI / Fabric semantic models and the Tabular model architecture.

  • Experience with, or a strong understanding of, TMDL.

  • Experience working with Semantic Link (SemPy) and/or Semantic Link Labs.

  • Familiarity with Power BI concepts such as - Semantic models, Measures and DAX, Relationships, Calculation groups, Model metadata, Workspaces and deployment concepts

  • Comfortable working with APIs, JSON payloads, authentication, metadata, and SDKs.

  • Good software engineering fundamentals, including Git, testing, modular code, error handling, and maintainability.

  • Exposure to authentication and authorization concepts, particularly Microsoft Entra ID / OAuth 2.0.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a global team · JavaScript or TypeScript.

  • Building small web applications or user interfaces for internal engineering tools.

  • Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.

  • Fabric CLI or other Fabric automation tooling.

  • TOM / Tabular Object Model.

  • XMLA endpoints.

  • Microsoft Graph APIs.
