Job description

The Lead Enterprise Data Steward is responsible for coordinating and operationalizing Penske’s Enterprise Data Governance Program through stewardship leadership, business metadata management, governance process execution, enterprise data catalog administration, and data quality enablement.\n \n This role serves as the primary liaison between Data Owners, Business Data Stewards, Technical Data Stewards, Data Engineering, Business Intelligence, Enterprise Architecture, Analytics, and Master Data Management teams. The Lead Enterprise Data Steward promotes the consistent definition, management, quality, protection, and governance of enterprise data assets while driving adoption of governance processes and technologies.\n \n The role will serve as the primary administrator and champion of Penske’s enterprise data catalog and metadata management capabilities and will partner closely with the MDM Platform Owner to support governance and stewardship requirements for enterprise master data domains including Location, Vehicle, Customer, and future master data initiatives.\n

Requirements

u2022 Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Management, Computer Science, or related field.\n \u2022 Minimum 5+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, Business Intelligence, Analytics, Master Data Management, or related disciplines.\n \u2022 Experience facilitating collaboration between business and technical stakeholders.\n \u2022 Experience working with metadata, data catalog, or governance technologies.\n \u2022 Experience supporting cross-functional governance initiatives.\n \u2022 Experience supporting MDM implementations.\n \u2022 Experience with Collibra, Purview, Informatica, or similar governance platforms.\n \u2022 Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) certification.\n \u2022 Experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or fleet management environments.\n \u2022 Experience developing governance metrics and stewardship programs.\n \u2022 Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.\n \u2022 Ability to influence without direct authority.\n \u2022 Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.\n \u2022 Ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical audiences.\n

n \nMajor Responsibilities:\n \n \nData Stewardship Leadership\n \u2022 Coordinate enterprise data stewardship activities across business and technology domains.\n \u2022 Establish and promote stewardship processes, responsibilities, and accountability models.\n \u2022 Facilitate stewardship forums, working groups, and governance meetings.\n \u2022 Partner with Data Owners and Data Stewards to maintain consistency in data definitions, ownership, and governance practices.\n \u2022 Serve as an escalation point for stewardship and data definition disputes.\n \u2022 Promote adoption of enterprise governance policies, standards, and procedures.\n \n \nMetadata & Data Catalog Management\n \u2022 Serve as primary administrator for Alation and related metadata management platforms.\n \u2022 Manage business glossary content, data definitions, ownership assignments, certifications, and stewardship workflows.\n \u2022 Coordinate metadata onboarding and catalog expansion initiatives.\n \u2022 Support documentation and maintenance of data lineage, classifications, and metadata standards.\n \u2022 Ensure metadata quality, completeness, and consistency across enterprise domains.\n \u2022 Promote enterprise adoption and utilization of data catalog capabilities.\n \n \nGovernance Program Support\n \u2022 Support implementation and operationalization of Penske’s Data Governance Program.\n \u2022 Facilitate governance working groups and stakeholder meetings.\n \u2022 Track governance issues, remediation plans, and stewardship activities.\n \u2022 Support development and maintenance of governance standards, procedures, and controls.\n \u2022 Assist with governance maturity assessments and continuous improvement initiatives.\n \u2022 Help embed governance requirements within projects, applications, and enterprise data initiatives.\n \n \nData Quality Management\n \u2022 Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to define data quality requirements, metrics, thresholds, and controls.\n \u2022 Coordinate identification, prioritization, and resolution of enterprise data quality issues.\n \u2022 Support root cause analysis and remediation activities.\n \u2022 Monitor data quality metrics and stewardship performance measures.\n \u2022 Promote accountability for quality management across governed data assets.\n \n \nCross-Functional Collaboration\n \u2022 Partner with Data Engineering teams to support metadata integration, data lineage, and governance automation capabilities.\n \u2022 Collaborate with the MDM Platform Owner to support governance requirements for master data domains.\n \u2022 Partner with Security, Privacy, Risk, Compliance, and Legal teams to ensure governance practices support organizational and regulatory requirements.\n \u2022 Facilitate alignment of governance practices across operational, analytical, and master data assets.\n \u2022 Promote data ownership and accountability across business functions.\n \n \nGovernance Reporting & Metrics\n \u2022 Develop governance scorecards and stewardship performance reporting.\n \u2022 Track governance adoption, metadata completeness, stewardship participation, and data quality improvements.\n \u2022 Produce executive reporting on governance activities and program progress.\n \u2022 Monitor governance KPIs and recommend corrective actions as needed.\n \n \nContinuous Improvement\n \u2022 Identify opportunities to improve governance effectiveness and stewardship efficiency.\n \u2022 Research industry best practices related to Data Governance, Data Quality, Metadata Management, and Master Data Management.\n \u2022 Recommend process improvements and governance automation opportunities.\n \u2022 Support implementation of workflow-based governance capabilities and metadata-driven controls.\n \n Other projects and tasks as assigned.\n \n, u2022 Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.\n \n \nPhysical Requirements:\n \u2022 The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
