In this role, you will work closely with software, manufacturing, and security teams to build reliable infrastructure and automation pipelines while helping ensure systems are configured and operated securely. This position offers the opportunity to contribute across multiple domains in a growing aerospace environment.

About Specter Aerospace:

Specter Aerospace is building the next generation of hypersonic vehicles for defense and commercial applications. Specter is headquartered in Peabody, MA, just north of Boston, where it leverages its advanced propulsion technologies, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. Funded by a mix of government R&D organizations, commercial customers, and private funding, Specter is a growing aerospace and defense startup. Close relationships with MIT, Notre Dame, AFRL, NRL, ANL, and other research organizations provide access to cutting-edge developments, facilities, and personnel. Specter is expanding its team in preparation for flight testing and full-scale production.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Security Lead to integrate security tooling and best practices into DevOps workflows
  • Support hardening efforts for development and deployment environments, including container images and supporting infrastructure
  • Maintain source control repositories and implement secure configuration and access practices
  • Support automated scanning, monitoring, and observability systems for infrastructure and workloads
  • Generate operational documentation for pipelines, build systems, and infrastructure configurations
  • Provide guidance to engineering teams on best practices for building, deploying, and maintaining reliable systems
  • Participate in risk assessments, system reviews, and infrastructure improvements
  • Assist with cross-functional tasks involving IT, engineering, and security teams as operational needs evolve

Requirements

Do you have experience in Tooling?, * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or combination of equivalent experience and certifications

  • Experience with CI/CD concepts, modern build systems, and automation tooling
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies and image lifecycle management
  • Experience with Linux-based systems in production or development environments
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially with engineering-focused teams
  • Ability to document system changes, configurations, and operational procedures clearly
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance

Desired Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or systems administration; 5 or more years of total IT experience is preferred
  • Exposure to security or compliance frameworks (such as NIST-based controls) is beneficial
  • Direct experience with Docker and Podman containerization
  • Security+ required or attained within 6-months of employment; additional certifications such as Terraform Associate, Docker Certified Associate, Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), GitLab/GitHub CI/CD certifications, RHCSA, or other relevant DevOps/Linux credentials are considered a plus
