The team is working on a Client mining program focused on detecting bucket tooth (tip) loss on large mining equipment. The project aims to:

• Detect a missing bucket tip within 2 seconds and immediately alert the operator.
• Prevent costly crusher damage and production downtime, potentially avoiding incidents exceeding $500K.
• Use Machine Learning and Computer Vision to identify bucket tip loss.
• Predict bucket tooth wear and provide maintenance and service interval recommendations.

• Leverage field-collected data for model training, testing, and validation., Important: Despite the job title, this is not primarily a traditional Embedded Systems role. The immediate need is for a Software Developer / Software Engineer with strong experience in Computer Vision and Machine Learning. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in:

• C++
• Python

• Model development, training, testing, and validation

The hiring manager confirmed that this position is fundamentally focused on ML and Computer Vision software development for heavy equipment applications., * Develop Computer Vision and Machine Learning solutions for mining equipment applications.

• Build and train custom ML models using labeled image datasets.
• Develop solutions to detect missing mining bucket tips and monitor bucket wear.
• Work on object detection, image classification, and image segmentation.
• Develop, test, and validate ML and Computer Vision models.
• Analyze field-collected data to improve model performance.
• Write and maintain high-quality software using C++ and Python.
• Collaborate closely with the Pittsburgh-based development team.
• Support predictive analytics solutions and maintenance recommendations.

• Strong proficiency in C++
• Strong proficiency in Python
• Hands-on experience in Machine Learning Model Development
• Strong experience with OpenCV and Computer Vision

• Robotics
• Software Development

Candidates with a relevant Master s degree and approximately 2 years of industry experience may be considered. Relevant coursework, research, academic projects, or professional projects in Machine Learning and Computer Vision should be clearly highlighted on the resume. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a Software Developer / Engineer with hands-on experience in C++, Python, Machine Learning, and OpenCV, who can contribute to Computer Vision and predictive analytics solutions for heavy mining equipment. ROS and AWS experience are beneficial but not mandatory. Location Requirement Pittsburgh, PA candidates are strongly preferred. The entire development team is based in Pittsburgh and works closely together onsite. The selected contractor is expected to work onsite in Pittsburgh for the duration of the assignment.
