Job description
The primary responsibility of the Sr. Manager of Software Engineering at Extra Space Storage is to lead engineering teams in building software products that add value for our customers and our business. Managers succeed in this responsibility through supporting people in their professional and career growth, by providing team direction on short- to mid-term time spans, and by sharing and expanding personal and team expertise in technical domains. Technical and Domain Expertise: Maintain and cultivate deep technical expertise while driving the adoption of engineering best practices. Expand organizational capabilities in areas such as scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, performance, and software quality.

Business and Product Alignment: Leverage a strong understanding of business objectives, customer needs, and operational processes to influence product strategy, improve execution, and maximize business value.

Value Delivery and Operational Excellence: Guide teams in achieving organizational objectives and key results, optimize software delivery processes, and ensure the efficient and predictable delivery of high impact solutions.

Leadership and Talent Development: Mentor and develop engineering team members through meaningful coaching, regular one on one discussions, feedback, and career planning. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

Talent Acquisition and Retention: Build and sustain high performing engineering organizations by recruiting, hiring, developing, and retaining top talent while promoting an inclusive and engaging work environment. This includes running our internship program that feeds into our organization for long term growth.
Requirements

10+ years of relevant engineering and/or leadership experience (typical)

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience

Experience with Agile methodology - scum and kanban.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Performs sedentary work in an office environment with limited lifting (less than 10 pounds) or walking required. Close visual acuity required to perform work at computer terminal. No exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Requires repetitive typing motion, talking, hearing, grasping and feeling.
