Job description

TRC is looking for an experienced consultant to join our Digital Grid Solutions team in EMEA, being part of the Energy Control Systems (ECS) practice. This role focuses on data management, data integration, network model management and MDM (master data management). The customer base will primarily focus on transmission and distribution system operators, and occasionally on data centres and generation., * Develop and implement data governance practices, including data ownership, data quality controls, validation rules, metadata, versioning, and lifecycle management.

  • Support data standardisation and harmonisation across network model datasets, systems, and stakeholders.
  • Manage and maintain network model data, ensuring data quality, consistency, completeness, traceability, and fitness for purpose.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Network Model Management (NMM) processes, methodologies, and related data workflows.
  • Work with industry data models and standards, including CIM (Common Information Model) and CGMES (Common Grid Model Exchange Standard), to support consistent and interoperable network model data.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and application of UCTE-DEF and related network model exchange and validation requirements.
  • Analyse and resolve data quality issues, model inconsistencies, mapping issues, and interoperability problems across network model sources and systems.
  • Develop and maintain data mappings, transformation rules, validation procedures, and data quality checks supporting network model management.
  • Contribute to the definition and improvement of data models, data structures, business rules, naming conventions, and standardised data definitions.
  • Support the preparation, validation, exchange, and integration of network models between internal systems and external stakeholders.
  • Perform data analysis and reconciliation to identify discrepancies between network model datasets and support their resolution.
  • Contribute to the design and improvement of NMM-related processes, tools, documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with business, technical, and subject-matter experts to translate network modelling requirements into data management and governance solutions.
  • Support requirements analysis, testing, implementation, and continuous improvement of network model management solutions.
  • Prepare technical documentation, specifications, guidelines, and reports relating to network model data, standards, governance, and interoperability.
  • Monitor developments in relevant network modelling standards, data exchange formats, and industry practices, and assess their implications for NMM and data management.
  • Provide expert advice and practical support on network model data management, standardisation, governance, and interoperability.

Client-facing

  • Act as the project lead/member for nominated customer projects and/or programmes, engaging directly with business, IT and operations.
  • Facilitate and/or lead data management and business process workshops
  • Advise clients on solution options, trade-offs and migration paths, articulating business value, risk and cost implications in language suitable for both executives and technical teams.

Delivery engagement

  • Being part of project delivery teams during the whole life cycle of a project. This can be as a representative of the customer or being part of the delivery team.
  • Anticipate and manage functional, technical, and data risks such as data quality, business integration complexity, or performance.
  • Ensure that project decisions, standards and deviations are clearly documented and communicated to all stakeholders.

Practice development & thought leadership

  • Contribute to the development of TRC’s data management capabilities and functional knowhow in Energy Control Systems.
  • Capture and share lessons learned, leading practices and reusable artefacts.
  • Stay current with industry trends in smart grids, EMS/ADMS/DERMS, cloud, data and integration, and bring these insights into client conversations and propositions.

Requirements

Experience/affinity with CIM/CGMES, NMM, data interoperability and standardisation in control centre operations, substation automation, TSO-DSO integration, DER/RES integration and corporate asset management., * Typically, 3-6 years of experience in the energy and utilities sector, including significant time in data management for TSOs, DSOs, Generation and/or utility-focused consultancies.

  • Proven experience with data management solutions, standardisation and/or cleansing involving OT applications and network models.
  • Strong understanding of data management and grid operations processes.
  • Practical knowledge of utility integration and data standards such as CIM/CGMES (IEC 61968/61970/62325), and their use in real projects/products.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, to a variety of stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Degree/HND in Computer Science, Electrical/Power Engineering or related discipline or relevant industry experience
  • Qualifications with PRINCE2, PMP, TOGAF, CDMP (DAMA) and/or vendor data management solutions is strongly preferred.
