Job description

You will lead our EO-based analytics pipelines, from algorithm design to production deployment, across multispectral/hyperspectral imagery, SAR data, and climate time series. You will own the technical direction of this workstream, working closely with our CTO and mentoring junior EO team members. This is a senior, high-ownership role at a small, technical startup where your decisions contribute to shaping the product.

This position is contingent on the finalisation of an upcoming ESA contract, whose deliverables involve close collaboration with the contract’s stakeholders.

What You’ll Work On

  • Designing and leading development of multimodal remote sensing data and modeling pipelines for agricultural analyses

  • Statistical and trend-detection methods applied to climate and remote sensing time series

  • Algorithm validation against ground reference data, and defining validation protocols

  • Setting technical standards and architecture decisions for the EO analytics stack

  • Mentoring and reviewing the work of junior EO team members

  • Contributing scientific/technical input to grant reporting and certification-related documentation

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in remote sensing, geoinformatics, environmental science, or a related field, with demonstrated applied experience

  • Strong Python skills and deep experience with geospatial libraries (rasterio, geopandas, xarray, shapely)

  • Hands-on experience processing satellite data

  • Solid grounding in statistics and time series methods

  • Track record of taking remote sensing algorithms from research to production

  • Comfortable working in Linux/bash, with Git and collaborative code review

Nice to have:

  • Experience with openEO, CDSE, or similar cloud EO processing frameworks

  • Familiarity with STAC catalogues and cloud-optimised formats (COG, Zarr)

  • Experience with agricultural or land surface monitoring applications

  • Prior experience mentoring or leading a small technical team

Benefits & conditions

  • A leadership role shaping the core analytics engine of a growing deeptech startup

  • Direct collaboration with the technical founder and close visibility into company strategy

  • Flat hierarchy, real ownership, and fast decision-making

  • Competitive salary with growth potential as the company scales

  • Opportunities to participate in AgriFood- and space-related events (e.g. Space Tech Expo Europe, EU Carbon Farming Summit, Agritechnica, etc.), nationally and internationally

  • Based in Bremen, with close collaboration with the ESA BIC Northern Germany community

  • Salary range: €70-90k gross/year depending on seniority

A typical selection process includes an initial screening followed by two interviews to assess candidates’ qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role.

Gehalt: 70.000,00€ - 90.000,00€ pro Jahr

Arbeitsort: Zum Teil im Homeoffice in Bremen (Bremen, Kreisfreie Stadt Bremen, Bremen)
