Job description
They are now looking for a talented Software Engineer with an interest in High-Performance Computing (HPC) to join their growing London team.
This isn’t a role where you’ll spend years working on one narrow component of a large system. You’ll have the opportunity to work across different technologies and technical challenges, gaining exposure to everything from software architecture and distributed computing through to GPU performance, numerical workloads and quantitative applications.
For someone who genuinely enjoys understanding how software and hardware behave under the hood, it offers a particularly interesting technical environment. What you’ll be working on
Depending on the project, you could be:
- Developing software for compute-intensive and performance-critical applications
- Investigating and improving the performance of large-scale workloads
- Working with CPU and GPU-based computing environments
- Building and optimising software used for quantitative, risk and analytical workloads
- Working with engineers and quantitative specialists to understand complex computational problems
- Investigating areas such as memory usage, concurrency, parallelism and computational performance
- Contributing to distributed computing and batch-processing systems
- Designing reliable, maintainable software for demanding production environments
- Working across multiple technical domains rather than being restricted to a single technology stack
The work can range from quantitative finance workloads to detailed discussions around GPU kernels, memory layouts and system performance., You’ll join a specialist environment where technical depth is valued and have the opportunity to:
- Take meaningful ownership of technical problems
- Work on genuinely challenging engineering projects
- Gain exposure to both HPC and quantitative technology
- Work alongside highly technical engineers and quantitative specialists
- Develop expertise across software, hardware and computational performance
- Work with different technologies rather than becoming siloed into one stack
- See the direct impact of the systems you build
The team deliberately operates with engineers having significant ownership and exposure to varied HPC and quantitative problems rather than repetitive development work. Interested?
If you’re a strong Software Engineer with experience in C++, Python, Rust, Java or C# and you’re interested in high-performance computing, GPU computing, distributed systems or quantitative technology, we’d be keen to hear from you.
Requirements
We’re much more interested in technical ability, curiosity and genuine enthusiasm for computing than finding someone with an identical background., * Strong academic record; degree from a leading university
- At least 1 year of professional, full-time software engineering experience
- Commercial experience with at least one of Python, C++, Java or C#
- Experience with a lower-level/manual-memory programming language such as C, C++ or Rust
- A strong interest in computer performance, systems or computationally intensive software
- Experience or exposure to either:
- High-Performance Computing (HPC), or
- technology within financial services, trading, risk, quantitative analytics or similar environments
- The ability to learn unfamiliar technical areas quickly
- An interest in understanding systems beyond simply making the code work
Candidates must also have the unrestricted right to live and work in the UK. Particularly useful experience
You don’t need to tick every box, but any exposure to the following would be valuable:
- High-Performance Computing / HPC
- C++
- Python
- Rust
- Java or C#
- GPU programming
- CUDA or ROCm
- Parallel programming
- Distributed systems
- Cluster computing
- Job schedulers or batch-processing frameworks
- Linux
- Numerical computing
- Monte Carlo simulation
- Quantitative finance
- Trading technology
- Financial risk systems
- Performance optimisation
- Low-latency or high-throughput systems
- Consultancy or client-facing technical work
Why consider it?
This would particularly suit an engineer who feels constrained by conventional software development and wants to tackle harder computational problems., You don’t need to come from a traditional HPC background. If you’re technically curious, enjoy getting into the detail of how systems work, and want to develop into a genuinely high-level engineer, this could be an excellent next step.
