Job description

As a Backend Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and maintain JavaScript code for new features and performance optimisation.
  • Contribute to improving performance and caching as our platform continues to scale.
  • Build maintainable, reusable, and reliable code.
  • Work with our AWS infrastructure to ensure high performance, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver excellent user experiences.
  • Be an active member of our flat-structured development team, contributing to technical and product strategy discussions.
  • Implement software development best practices, including testing and code reviews.

Requirements

  • Commercial experience with JavaScript, including ES6/7 features.
  • Experience with Node.js and related frameworks (e.g., Express, Sequelize).
  • Experience working with relational databases and NoSQL databases.
  • Understanding of web design patterns.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, agile team environment.

You could be a great fit if

  • You have a passion for technology and its potential to transform industries.
  • You’re eager to learn and grow, and you’re not afraid to take on new challenges.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • You’re a strong problem-solver with a keen eye for detail.
  • You’re committed to writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
  • You have experience with automated testing (this is a plus, but not a requirement).

You might not be a great fit if

  • You prefer to work independently and don’t enjoy collaborating with others.
  • You’re not comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
  • You’re not interested in learning new technologies or keeping up with the latest industry trends.
