As a Senior Network Security Engineer, youâll play a key role in designing, managing, and continuously improving network security across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. Youâll work with cutting-edge security technologies, solve complex technical challenges, and collaborate with teams across the organization to deliver secure, reliable connectivity that supports business success.
Day in the Life
No two days are exactly the same. Youâll spend your time designing and strengthening network security across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments, managing enterprise firewalls and Network Access Control (NAC) solutions, and troubleshooting complex connectivity and security challenges. Youâll collaborate with teams across Network Engineering, Cloud, Infrastructure, Security Operations, and End User Computing to deliver secure, reliable access to critical business applications. Along the way, youâll automate processes, improve security policies, mentor fellow engineers, and play a key role in protecting the organizationâs technology while enabling the business to move forward with confidence.
What Youâll Be Doing
- Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot network security solutions across on-premises, Microsoft Azure, and hybrid environments.
- Manage enterprise firewall platforms, including security policies, NAT, VPNs, traffic inspection, segmentation, SSL/TLS decryption, threat prevention, and routing integration.
- Administer Network Access Control (NAC) solutions for wired, wireless, VPN, and remote users, including authentication, device profiling, posture validation, and policy enforcement.
- Support network segmentation initiatives using firewall policies, NAC enforcement, VLANs, security zones, and identity-based access controls.
- Manage and enhance network security technologies, including solutions from Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet.
- Troubleshoot complex network and security issues involving firewalls, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, certificates, authentication, cloud networking, endpoint posture, and VPN connectivity.
- Develop automation and integrations using APIs and scripting to improve reporting, efficiency, and operational processes.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including security standards, diagrams, implementation plans, runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and rollback procedures.
- Review firewall and NAC policies to ensure they remain secure, effective, and aligned with business requirements.
- Partner with Network Engineering, Security Operations, Infrastructure, Cloud, and Endpoint teams to deliver secure, reliable access to business applications.
- Participate in incident response, technical investigations, root cause analysis, and remediation efforts involving network security controls.
- Mentor fellow engineers by sharing technical expertise and supporting their professional development.
- Contribute to additional network and infrastructure security initiatives as business needs evolve.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in network security, network engineering, security engineering, or infrastructure security.
- Hands-on experience managing enterprise firewall environments, including security policies, VPNs, NAT, segmentation, traffic inspection, and troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting Network Access Control (NAC) solutions across wired, wireless, VPN, or remote access environments.
- Experience working in hybrid environments that include on-premises infrastructure and Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with enterprise firewall and NAC platforms, particularly Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet technologies, is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, authentication, certificates, HTTP, TLS, and identity-based access controls.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across Layers 2 through 7, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network and security issues.
- Experience using scripting and APIs to automate tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Strong documentation skills with the ability to create clear technical standards, diagrams, and implementation guides.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to balance security, business needs, and operational stability while managing multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience mentoring engineers and helping build a strong technical team.
- Professional certifications such as GIAC/SANS, CCNP Security, PCNSE, Fortinet NSE, or Azure networking/security certifications are a plus.
- Experience working in regulated environments or with security frameworks such as CIS Controls, SOX, GLBA, or FFIEC is a plus.
