Job description
We are seeking a hands-on IT Associate to support ophthalmology and specialty medical practices. This role involves on-site technical support, network troubleshooting, workstation and server management, VoIP systems, and medical device connectivity.
This is not a ticket-only help desk role. You will be physically present in clinics, solving real-time infrastructure issues in environments where downtime directly impacts patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Servers
- Support Windows Server environments (Active Directory, DNS, file shares)
- Maintain and troubleshoot domain-joined workstations
- Manage shared drives and permissions
- Monitor backups and ensure data integrity
- Assist with cloud migration projects (Azure, hybrid setups)
Networking
- Troubleshoot switches, Ethernet drops, and port issues
- Diagnose connectivity failures (SMB, TCP/IP, VLANs)
- Support firewall and gateway configurations (e.g., SonicWall, UniFi)
- Identify and resolve room-specific network failures
Workstations & End-User Support
- Diagnose boot failures and hardware issues (Dell OptiPlex and similar)
- Resolve domain login and authentication issues
- Configure MFA / Microsoft 365 accounts
- Install and configure printers, scanners, and peripherals
VoIP & Communications
- Configure and troubleshoot VoIP systems (OnSIP, Vonage)
- Manage extensions, call groups, and routing
- Ensure cross-location call handling works properly
Medical Equipment Integration
- Connect ophthalmology devices (Zeiss, Topcon, Humphrey, etc.) to networks
- Troubleshoot SMB/network path issues between devices and servers
- Coordinate with equipment vendors when needed
- Support file-based data transfers into EMR systems
On-Site Support in Clinical Settings
- Work in active patient environments with minimal disruption
- Prioritize stability and uptime during business hours
- Communicate clearly with clinical and administrative staff
Requirements
- 2+ years hands-on IT support experience (on-site preferred)
- Strong Windows Server and Active Directory knowledge
- Experience troubleshooting SMB/network share issues
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, switches, and basic firewall concepts
- Experience supporting VoIP systems
- Ability to diagnose hardware vs. software issues independently
- Strong problem-solving and calm under pressure
