Skills Development Lead

Sizewell C’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Overall, whilst the Company is in the construction phase, the Boards’ principal focus is on the development and construction of Sizewell C on time, on budget and to the highest quality and safety standards. The Company is maturing to meet all these requirements.

Sizewell C is economically regulated by OFGEM under the RAB model similar to other UK electricity distribution networks and Thames Tideway.

Sizewell C construction strategy is to replicate the design of Hinkley Point C, using the majority of the same supply chain, but innovating in the way it is delivered to achieve savings in time and cost of around 20%. The CCO will need to be guided by and incorporate lessons learned from the Hinkley Point C commercial delivery to achieve Sizewell C’s ambition.

Following Financial Completion and Revenue Commencement, Sizewell C is fully funded and is owned by; The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero representing HM Government, La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure., We’re looking for a Skills Development Lead to play a key role in shaping and delivering skills initiatives that will help build the future workforce required to support Sizewell C. Working within the Employment Affairs Unit (EAU), you’ll collaborate with further education providers, training organisations, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders to develop sustainable talent pipelines and create meaningful pathways into employment across our wide range of workforce needs.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Skills Development Lead, you will: Lead the development and delivery of apprenticeship and pre-employment programmes aligned to project workforce needs. Build and maintain strong relationships with delivery providers, training organisations, employers, supply chain partners and local stakeholders. Support the creation of skills and employment pipelines that feed into future apprenticeships and jobs across the project. Provide governance and oversight of apprenticeship and pre-employment training programmes, ensuring they are effective, compliant and deliver measurable outcomes. Work closely with contractors and supply chain partners to support workforce development activities and training arrangements. Contribute to the delivery of the project’s ambition to support 1,500 new apprenticeships. Monitor programme performance, quality and reporting requirements, ensuring accurate data and continuous improvement. Support the design and implementation of new learning and skills initiatives that respond to current and future workforce requirements. Provide career advice and guidance through skills and employment related activities. Ensure all activity aligns with the project’s commitments, stakeholder expectations and workforce strategy.

What You’ll Need

We’re looking for someone with experience in the skills development, education, training or workforce development sector who can influence stakeholders and turn plans into successful delivery.

Experience delivering apprenticeship, employability, skills development or workforce programmes. Strong knowledge of the education and skills landscape, including post-16 education, funding and policy. Proven experience engaging and influencing stakeholders at local, regional and national levels. Experience building partnerships across education providers, employers, training organisations and other external stakeholders. The ability to translate strategic objectives into practical, measurable outcomes. Strong communication and relationship management skills. Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and SharePoint. Confidence working in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Experience within construction, infrastructure, further education, higher education or other large, complex organisations would be advantageous. Supply chain engagement experience and an understanding of workforce planning would also be beneficial.
