Job description

  • Client standards reviews. Plan and complete structured on-site and remote technical audits for assigned clients.
  • Standards and evidence. Assess environments objectively, record evidence and maintain accurate alignment scores.
  • Risk identification. Find security, resilience, lifecycle and configuration gaps before they cause disruption.
  • Clear reporting. Turn technical findings into plain-English priorities: act now, plan next or monitor.
  • Documentation. Keep asset, network, configuration and client records complete, current and useful.
  • Follow-through. Make sure actions have owners, dates and a proper conclusion. ‘Mentioned it once’ is not a control.
  • Client trust. Build strong working relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Internal teamwork. Give the vCIO, Client Relationship Manager, Service Desk, Centralised Services and Projects teams the facts they need to act.
  • Better standards. Help improve Syn-Star’s standards library, review process and documentation quality.

Requirements

Are you the highly detail oriented and good communicator that Syn-Star IT Support is looking for?

Great IT support is not only about fixing problems quickly. It is about finding risks, weak standards and missing information before they create downtime.

Syn-Star is looking for a technically credible, highly organised person who notices what others miss, documents it properly, explains it clearly and follows the action through.

This work is sometimes known within an MSP as technical alignment. You do not need previous experience under that title. If you have worked in IT support, infrastructure or technical compliance and enjoy finding the detail behind a problem, this could be your next step., You will probably be a good fit if…

  • You have typically two or more years’ experience in MSP support, infrastructure, technical compliance or a similarly broad role.
  • You can understand a client environment without needing to be the person who built every part of it.
  • You care whether evidence, diagrams and records are accurate.
  • You can explain a technical risk without hiding behind acronyms.
  • You are comfortable challenging a poor setup while keeping the client relationship strong.
  • You organise your own workload and raise urgent risks quickly.
  • You hold a full UK driving licence and can travel in one of our vehicles regularly to client sites across Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex.

The technical grounding we need

You do not need to be the most experienced engineer. You do need enough breadth and judgement to recognise when something is out of alignment and does not meet our standards.

  • Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online and Intune
  • Windows endpoints, Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Networking, firewalls, VPNs, switching and business Wi-Fi
  • Endpoint security, EDR/XDR, encryption and managed patching
  • Backup, Microsoft 365 backup, disaster recovery and restore testing
  • RMM, PSA and documentation systems

Experience with Autotask, Datto RMM, MyGlue or IT Glue, Cyber Essentials, Azure and modern security tooling is useful but not mandatory.

  • You avoid client conversations when the answer may be uncomfortable.

What you will get

  • £32,000-£40,000 salary, depending on experience
  • Protected weekly training time and support with relevant certifications
  • A clear progression route towards vCIO, technical leadership or a specialist path

  • The option to buy and carry over additional holiday, subject to policy
  • Up to two paid volunteering days each year
  • A gym subsidy and support towards one physical challenge each year, subject to scheme rules

  • Company events
