Job description
We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Test Engineer to join our Power Systems Test & Facilities team, supporting the operation and maintenance of JCB’s engine research and development test facilities.
We are leaders in the development of off highway diesel and alternative fuel engines predominantly for our internal JCB customers. This development takes place in JCB Power Systems Research & Development Centre based at Foston, where we have 18 world class internal combustion engine development test cells. The main focus for this position is to be responsible for the upkeep and running of the development test cells, ensuring that they are reliable and deliver quality data. As a new member to the team you’ll also be responsible for the continuous improvement of the health, safety and environmental practices. Additionally support with development machines often being tested by other business units may be required.
What does this role involve day to day?
- Be responsible for the running and maintaining of some of the most advanced test cells in the country/world.
- Ensuring the working environment is safe for yourself and your colleagues by actively reducing risks.
- Maintaining and monitoring of development engines health using upward of 300 channels of data from the engine and test cell.
- Carry out instrumentation and test cell calibration and maintenance.
- Running and maintaining increasingly complex testing regimes, configuring automated test schedules working to continuously improve testing methods.
- Accurate keeping of engine, test cell and utilization records.
- Measured building and stripping of prototype and development engines.
- Hands on repairs, controlled part removal and refit and scheduled engine services.
- To be flexible with the possibility of shift work and/or call out work.
Requirements
- You have HNC level qualifications which is preferred however, exceptional experience will also be considered; we are increasingly looking for and taking on degree level candidates, due to the ever-increasing complexity of the role.
- You have experience in HS&E management.
- You have a s sound understanding of modern internal combustion engines and their control, emissions and aftertreatment systems.
- You have proven experience in development engine testing and fault diagnostics in a test cell environment or out in the field.
- You’re a competent user of Microsoft office suite.
- You have good computer literacy to a level where you can run several software applications simultaneously, including the test cell control (CP Cadet), ATI / Visu (electronic engine management control), and several bespoke instrumentation software packages.
- You have an aptitude for hands on electrical/mechanical work with occasional fabrication/machining.
