Job description

Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor., Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer)., * Depending on the selected candidate’s experience and coursework, the student will assist with projects related to electricity and natural gas demand forecasting, data analysis, econometric modeling, dashboard development, and data quality control.

  • Projects may include analyzing large energy datasets, supporting updates to forecasting models using Python or R, developing dashboards and visualizations, automating data processing tasks, and assisting with research related to electricity demand trends and emerging technologies.The student may also assist with technical documentation, presentation materials, data organization, and other analytical tasks as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a remote environment.

The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) is seeking to hire one student assistant to support the Energy Assessments Division’s demand forecasting team., Majors/Fields of Study

Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics and Statistics, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, or any closely related field., * Students must be in good standing and have a minimum 2.0 GPA or above.

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.Ability to establish and maintain good work., * Knowledge of Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or other data analysis and visualization tools is desired. Coursework or experience in statistics, econometrics, data science, machine learning, or programming is encouraged. Must have strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority.
