Data Centre Engineering Manager

I am recruiting for a challenging role of a Data Centre Engineering Manager. He/ She would report directly to the Account Manager, deputising in his absence, you will be key to the technical operation of the building and its infrastructure.

Key Tasks

Duties to include:

• Supervise, coordinate and manage the Supplier Site Personnel technical competences for all building plant and systems.
• Operate all systems within the buildings in a competent, effective and efficient manner (including HV isolations/operations). Having due regard to business risk and energy use. Making recommendations for improvement and providing concise technical reports when required.
• Control all activities relating to the technical and efficient operation of the installed building systems including the BMS, Lighting Control Systems, Electrical thermal monitoring systems, HV infrastructure and compliance with Environmental policy, risk assessments and Control of Legionella.
• Working closely with the engineering team you should ensure that for Specialist Sub Contractors visits have been prepared and approved Standard Operating Procedures/ MOP/PTW/ Global Switch change requests.
• Ensure that Specialist Sub Contractor worksheets are signed off where necessary, that quality of work has been inspected and recommendations are communicated by the Site Personnel.
• To provide backup as engineering relief cover in the event of an emergency situation, which may require temporary Shift working.
• Ensure the team and Sub Contractors comply with the contractual service level agreements (SLA’s).
• Take a leading role in the regular review of the PPM system ensuring both work scheduling and job descriptions are accurate.
• Attend weekly operations meetings, client meetings as requested, in conjunction with the Account Manager.
• To assist the Account Manager in completing the Monthly and Quarterly Engineering Report as detailed in the contract ensuring that significant events or activities are noted.
• Prepare information to be included in the Supplier monthly site reports.
• Ensure the asset database and electronic O&M systems are correct and up to date.
• To monitor utilities usage and report to the client on any abnormalities or energy savings.
• Management of critical engineering infrastructure
• Compilation of control of engineering risk register and report on critical systems availability
• Review of engineering competency, skills gaps and future training, ensure contract is staffed by competent teams, ensuring post holders are fully competent and that effective succession planning arrangements are in place
• Impromptu challenge of engineers to ensure knowledge and understanding of critical infrastructures is at an appropriate level
• Management of onsite critical spares
• Compilation of critical incident & near miss reporting and after action reviews
• Ensure all critical equipment maintenance is undertaken in line with requirements
• Ensure all critical equipment operational issues are brought to the Customers attention immediately and provide all relevant reports with recommendation
• Management of critical engineering infrastructure
• Compilation of control of engineering risk register and report on critical systems availability
• Review of engineering competency, skills gaps and future training, ensure contract is staffed by competent teams, ensuring post holders are fully competent and that effective succession planning arrangements are in place
• Impromptu challenge of engineers to ensure knowledge and understanding of critical infrastructures is at an appropriate level

• Ensure all critical equipment operational issues are brought to the Customers attention immediately and provide all relevant reports with recommendations
• Production of quotation for critical infrastructure enhancement / remedial works
• Implementation of site specific standard and emergency operating procedures
• Implementation of critical infrastructure scenario plans
• Oversee statutory certification and QHSE compliance
• Management of escalation of Specialist Sub Contractors issues
• Ensure all technical / legislative updates are effectively communicated and implemented by the engineering team
• On call Management support of engineering resource
• Contribute to the overall Business Continuity and Risk Mitigation plan

Operation and troubleshooting for the following:

• Building management system.
• Lighting Control system.
• CMMS
• Air conditioning System, DFU’s, FCU’s, AHU’s and ACU’s.
• Variable speed drives.
• Boilers and heating system.
• DRUPS and ancillary components.
• Single phase and three phase motors.
• Emergency lighting.
• Operation of HV systems (training and familiarisation with this system will be made available if required).
• Ensure that service providers worksheets are signed off, quality of works are inspected and any recommendations/problems are escalated.
• Provide emergency cover for the engineering team.

• Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in Data Centre or Critical Environment operations.
• HV Authorised Person
• C&G Pts. 1 & 2, equivalent or exceeds.
• 17th Edition IEE: Wiring and Installation
• C&G 2391 test and inspection; BS 7671:2001 for inspection, testing and certification.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to deal with all levels of staff.
• Ability to lead, motivate and direct a small team of technicians/operatives.
