Job description

The Job Developer’s primary responsibility is to engage with local employers to develop and maintain ongoing mutually beneficial relationships that promote the hiring of SEP participants, while meeting the business needs of the employer. OBJECTIVES/ACTIVITIES: Responsible for identifying businesses for client placement to achieve established objectives of the department.

  • Establish and cultivate relationships with local businesses within targeted industry sectors and community organizations appropriate to SEP program participants.
  • Develop mutually beneficial partnerships and secure subsidized employment opportunities for SEP program participants.
  • Attend local networking events within the community; chamber events, business alliances, merchant associations, local community events, etc.
  • Collect W-9, contract, job descriptions and wages, schedule appointments, business licenses.
  • Create a system to support the regional growth and industry needs of open positions in the region.
  • Create a systematic approach to regional employers in small business communities.
  • Collaborate with other VOA programs, local nonprofits and workforce programs to support hiring and networking events, employer spotlights, job fairs, and other employer engagement opportunities.
  • Work with Program Supervisor on marketing campaigns to promote SEP programs for small business communities to market and create pipelines for SEP participants.
  • Inquire to make sure business has been in business for at least 2 years and has a minimum 3 employees.
  • Assists with meeting monthly placement goals.
  • Manage database of employers and client referrals. Present monthly reports on contacts, placements and new businesses, hiring or networking events for SEP clients.
  • Attend DHA meetings, as needed.
  • Attend orientation and job prospects after orientation, as needed.
  • Work with community-based organizations, schools and community partners to establish relationships with potential clients and business partners.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Create, Develop and Implement Strategic Partnership with Business Community and Small business affiliates.

  • Work with local chambers of commerce, networking groups, SBA, WIC, and SETA to best understand needs, trends and processes to access businesses looking for employees.
  • Strategically implement a process to market small business communities and agencies in the region.
  • Work with Community NGOs to support their hiring needs and community partnerships.
  • Build a database of businesses to expand and enlarge the SEP footprint in the region.
  • Collaborate with other VOA job developers to create employment pipeline for VOA Clients.

Responsible for self-development.

  • Attend staff meetings and assigned training and complete required certifications, i.e. CPR, First Aid, etc.
  • Support DHA Liaison and Retention Specialist to ensure successful placement with business and clients.
  • Create new and creative ways to meet the needs of participants and small businesses in the region with marketing and networking
  • Expand and enlarge regional footprint to meet the needs of SEP participants to businesses in their local area.
  • Support the VOA team to collaborate with our business partners to secure new job orders.
  • Attend all training and collaborative meetings necessary for development of employment resources.
  • Attend job developer training, seminars and community development growth.
  • Maintain above average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to ensure a safe work environment for clients and all personnel.
  • Continually learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills.

Requirements

EQUIVALENT EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma/GED required, and associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with the business community as it relates to recruiting for employment and/or performing related marketing. The position requires strong working knowledge of employment referral sources and the ability to establish relationships/new resources for employment. Must have the flexibility to work irregular hours. Must have the willingness to function as a team member with the ability to make skillful independent decisions. Ability to demonstrate proficiency working with computers including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and database systems required. Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to meet the organization’s insurance carrier guidelines are required. Must pass all required background clearances in accordance with agency, County, State, and federal standards. CPR/First Aid certification is required within 90 days of employment. Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED: Teamwork skills Oral and written communication skills Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 & Adobe Acrobat Ability to de-escalate crisis situations Ability to advocate for special needs clients Organizational skills Analytical and decision-making ability PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lift and move up to 50 pounds Willing to travel to community locations in personal vehicle as needed with reimbursement Able to climb stairs as required Stand, walk, bend, stoop and sit frequently Kneel occasionally Pay Range: USD $30.00 - USD $30.00 /Hr.
