Job description
We are seeking an experienced Java Developer with strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and modern CI/CD pipelines via GitLab. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance Java enterprise applications while taking ownership of the underlying cloud infrastructure and deployment automation.
The ideal candidate bridges the gap between software development and DevOps practices, ensuring robust application logic alongside reliable, automated infrastructure provisioning.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Java/Spring Boot microservices and enterprise applications.
- Write clean, maintainable code following best practices, unit testing protocols, and design patterns.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define architecture, API contracts, and business logic requirements.
- Perform code reviews, troubleshoot production issues, and optimize application performance and scalability.
Infrastructure & Cloud Automation
- Author, maintain, and modularize Terraform scripts to provision and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS / Azure / Google Cloud Platform).
- Treat infrastructure as code, ensuring all environments (Dev, Test, Prod) are declarative, version-controlled, and reproducible.
- Manage state files, modules, and secrets securely within Terraform workflows.
CI/CD & DevOps Integration
- Build, maintain, and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines (.gitlab-ci.yml) for automated testing, building, scanning, and deployment of Java applications and Terraform infrastructure.
- Implement security scanning (SAST/DAST), dependency checks, and automated unit/integration tests within GitLab workflows.
- Manage version control best practices using Git branching strategies (e.g., GitLab Flow, GitFlow).
Requirements
- Java Development: 4+ years of professional software development experience using Java 11+ and core frameworks like Spring Boot, Spring Data, and Hibernate/JPA.
- Infrastructure as Code: 2+ years of hands-on experience using Terraform for cloud infrastructure management (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
- CI/CD & Git: Demonstrated expertise in building complex GitLab CI/CD pipelines from scratch, including runner configuration, multi-stage deployments, and environment management.
- REST APIs: Deep understanding of RESTful web service design, microservices architecture, and JSON/XML processing.
- Database Management: Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases.
- Build Tools: Proficiency with Java build tools like Maven or Gradle.
- Containers: Experience with Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Knowledge of cloud security best practices (IAM roles, KMS, secret management via HashiCorp Vault or Cloud Secret Managers).
- Experience working on U.S. Federal Government contracts or enterprise public sector environments requiring Public Trust or Secret security clearance.
- Certification in relevant technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Developer/Solutions Architect, HashiCorp Certified Terraform Associate).
- Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, CloudWatch).
