HMRC is building a modern, digital tax administration and runs the biggest digital operation in Government, providing digital services for 45 million individuals and 4.9 million business customers. Our digital programme is multi-award winning and the envy of other government organisations., Part of The Borders and Trade Delivery Group who are responsible for the end-to-end service management and development of over 100 separate services from the generation of Trade Statistics, to the administration of Customs and Excise duties.
As part of the Test Guild, you will provide test support of live services, updates, improvements, and development of both new and existing systems, across multiple platforms and locations.
You will undertake functional and non-functional testing activities to meet Project requirements and support Test Team members.
You will assist in developing Automated Testing and support Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery across a variety of platforms.
As a test specialist, you will work alongside our business analysts to understand client requirements and define and execute test scenarios, whilst leveraging a bespoke BDD automation test framework.
Person specification
Core responsibilities for a QAT Analyst:
Analyse requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria to design and execute effective manual and automated test scenarios.
Develop, maintain and execute test cases and automated test suites, using appropriate test management, automation and API testing tools.
Work collaboratively within Agile delivery teams to identify quality risks, manage defects and support the delivery of high-quality digital services.
Produce test evidence, progress updates and quality metrics, communicating outcomes clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders., If you have an HMRC online account already, sign straight in using your ID and password. If not, you can prove your identity by answering some questions or providing your photo ID.
YouÂ’ll then be able to access the app quickly and easily by signing in using a 6-digit PIN, your fingerprint, or facial recognition.

Reserve List
A reserve list may be held for up to 12 months from which further appointments may be made for the same or similar roles – if this applies to you, we’ll let you know via your Civil Service Jobs account.
Merit List
After interview, a single merit list will be created, and you will only be considered for posts in locations you have expressed a preference for. Appointments will be made in strict merit order in line with the set number of roles in each location.

Hybrid working at HMRC
HMRC is an office-based organisation, and colleagues are expected to spend 60% of their working time in the office. Our offices provide opportunity for interaction, collaboration which aids learning and development and a sense of community. Where the role allows it, and where the home environment is suitable, colleagues can work from home for up to 2 days a week, averaged over a calendar month (or a proportionate amount of time for colleagues who work less than full time).

Requirements
Experience of software testing across the Software Development Lifecycle, including requirements analysis, test design, execution, defect management and quality reporting. Experience using a range of test management, automation and defect tracking tools (e.g. Zephyr, Jira, JMeter, Cucumber, SOAP UI, Selenium and Postman). Strong experience in automation testing, including the design, development, maintenance and optimisation of automated test suites. Experience of applying risk-based testing and test prioritisation techniques within Agile and DevOps delivery environments, supported by the effective use of tools such as Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jira and Confluence, and aligned to CI/CD practices. Experience of analysing test results, trends and quality metrics to support informed decision-making, continuous improvement and test maturity initiatives.

Experience working in an Agile team with a clear delivery focus, providing test evidence, progress updates and communicating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders., A validated technical background demonstrated through relevant skills, industry experience and/or recognised qualifications (e.g. ISEB, ISTQB, Computer Science or related technical qualifications). Experience of using Power BI to create dashboards, reports and visualisations to support quality assurance, testing metrics and management information. Knowledge or practical experience of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies, including their application within software delivery, test analysis, defect management or reporting.

Awareness of non-functional testing disciplines, including accessibility, performance, operational acceptance and security testing, ideally within government, regulated or large-scale enterprise environments., Customer facing roles in HMRC require the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English and/or Welsh where required. Where this is an essential requirement, this will be tested as part of the selection process.
