Job description

You will initially be our principal in-house developer, responsible for the software platform and its AWS infrastructure. You’ll have significant freedom to determine how the product, architecture and development practices evolve as 4D scales.

Our existing front and back ends are written in JavaScript, using Angular and Node.js, and hosted in Amazon Web Services. You’ll work closely with the leadership team, turning commercial and customer requirements into a secure, reliable and scalable product.

The role would suit someone who enjoys working autonomously, making pragmatic technical decisions and seeing their work have a direct commercial and environmental impact.

What you’ll be doing

· Owning and developing the platform and AWS infrastructure

· Building new customer-facing and internal features across the full stack

· Creating a technical roadmap aligned with our commercial growth

· Improving the platform’s scalability, security, resilience and performance

· Managing deployments, monitoring, backups and production reliability

· Integrating live data from IoT devices and external systems

· Strengthening testing, documentation and release processes

· Using AI agents and AI-assisted development to accelerate delivery and expand the platform’s capabilities

· Evaluating new technologies that can create genuine value for 4D and its customers, · Flexible or remote working arrangements (though attendance for meetings at our office in Cambridgeshire will be occasionally required)

If you’re excited by the opportunity to own a product, make consequential technical decisions and use IoT and AI to change how buildings perform, we’d love to hear from you.

About 4D Monitoring

4D Monitoring is making buildings smarter, more efficient and more sustainable.

Our IoT platform gives organisations real-time visibility of energy use, occupancy, environmental conditions and asset performance-revealing waste, preventing faults and enabling faster, better-informed decisions.

This is proven technology operating at meaningful scale: 35,000 sensors across 500 sites, processing more than 56 million readings each month and helping customers reduce energy consumption by an average of 30%.

We’re now looking for an experienced full-stack developer to take ownership of the platform and help shape its next stage of growth.

Pay: £70,000.00-£80,000.00 per year

Requirements

· Strong commercial experience as a full-stack JavaScript developer

· Experience with Angular, ideally Angular 2+

· Strong Node.js and back-end development skills

· Practical experience building and maintaining applications in AWS

· A solid understanding of APIs, databases, authentication and cloud architecture

· Experience owning or taking a leading role in a production software platform

· The judgement to balance technical quality, delivery speed and commercial priorities

· A proactive, independent approach to solving problems

· The ability to explain technical decisions clearly to non-technical colleagues

· Practical experience with AI agents or AI-assisted software development

Experience with IoT platforms, time-series data, infrastructure as code, automated deployment, cybersecurity or modernising an established application would be a bonus

What we offer

· Genuine ownership of a proven technology platform

· Significant influence over the product and technical roadmap

· The freedom to choose the right tools and shape how engineering is done

· Technology with measurable commercial and environmental impact

· Direct access to company leadership and customers
