Job description

We are seeking a Web Platform Engineer to own the technical health of our website. This person will make sure our site is fast, secure, stable, measurable, healthy and always on, so that our Front-End Designer & Developer can stay focused on how it looks and converts. This position will own the WordPress platform end to end: hosting and environments, plugin architecture and updates, security and backups, performance and uptime, technical SEO, and the tracking and integration layer that connects our website to HubSpot and the rest of the marketing stack. Our Web Platform Engineer will be the technical authority on the website inside a marketing organization that moves quickly, and have the autonomy to build the standards, environments, and documentation to keep the site healthy and safe. If you like owning a platform, catching problems before anyone else notices and maintaining functional documentation, this role was made for you., * Owns the WordPress back end, including custom post types, taxonomies, custom fields, template logic, and custom plugin/theme functionality in PHP, along with the custom functionality marketing programs depend on: gated content, dynamic and personalized content, form logic, and campaign infrastructure.

  • Maintains a disciplined plugin strategy and a defined upgrade cadence for PHP, WordPress core, themes, and plugins, tested on staging before production release, and maintains Elementor at the platform level, including custom widgets and controlling the performance and markup overhead a page builder introduces.
  • Maintains local, staging, and production environments with version control and a repeatable, documented deployment process.
  • Owns site reliability and infrastructure end to end: uptime and error monitoring with automated alerting, server-side performance (caching, CDN, database and query optimization, image delivery), Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS), hosting/DNS/SSL, and automated backups with a tested disaster recovery plan.
  • Owns website security end to end: hardening against common attack vectors, vulnerability scanning and patching, least-privilege access with MFA/SSO, and an incident response runbook you lead when something goes wrong.
  • Maintains web privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and consent-mode configuration) and supports accessibility compliance by remediating barriers identified in WCAG 2.2 AA audits.
  • Owns technical SEO execution and site health, including crawlability, sitemaps, schema markup, SEMrush monitoring, backlink remediation, and Google Search Console diagnostics, partnering with Tenna’s Content SEO specialist on keyword and content strategy.
  • Owns the tracking layer, including GA4, Google Tag Manager, HubSpot tracking, and server-side tagging where appropriate, ensuring marketing data is accurate and trusted.
  • Builds and maintains integrations between WordPress, HubSpot, and other marketing and sales systems via APIs and webhooks, ensuring form submissions, lead routing, UTM and attribution data, and gated content flows work reliably end to end, and troubleshoots discrepancies as they arise.
  • Documents architecture, integrations, credentials management, processes, and runbooks, and establishes QA standards and pre-release checklists, including automated or visual regression testing where it pays off.
  • Partners daily with the Front-End Designer & Developer and supports marketing stakeholders with technical scoping, realistic estimates, and plain-language explanations of risk and tradeoffs.
  • Uses Tenna-approved AI tools to accelerate debugging, code review, log triage, test generation, and documentation, with all AI-assisted code reviewed, tested, and security-checked before it reaches production.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional back-end web development, including substantial WordPress experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, web development, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Experience supporting a B2B SaaS marketing site and a demand generation team is a plus.
  • Exposure to marketing operations or revenue operations is a plus.
  • Strong PHP and MySQL, and fluency with WordPress APIs (hooks and filters, the REST API, and WP-CLI); able to read, write, and debug custom plugin code.
  • Working JavaScript ability, sufficient to debug interactions between front-end and back-end behavior.
  • Experience working in a version-controlled, staging-to-production workflow. Disciplined change management and rollback capability are required.
  • Experience with Elementor at a technical level, including its performance and markup implications and how to keep an Elementor-built site fast and stable.
  • Hands-on SEMrush experience for site health monitoring, Site Audit remediation, backlink auditing and disavows, and technical issue triage.
  • Demonstrated ownership of website security: hardening, vulnerability management, backups, and incident response.
  • Experience with managed WordPress hosting (WP Engine), CDNs, caching layers, and DNS management.
  • Technical SEO fluency: Google Search Console, crawl diagnostics, schema markup, redirect strategy, and site migration integrity.
  • Hands-on GA4 and Google Tag Manager implementation, plus a working understanding of consent management and web privacy requirements.
  • API integration experience, ideally including HubSpot or a comparable marketing automation platform.
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.2 AA and the technical work required to support compliance.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development tools, with sound judgment about reviewing, testing, and securing generated code and dependencies.
  • Clear written communication: able to explain technical tradeoffs, risk, and timelines to non-technical marketing stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation habits and repeatable processes.
