Job description

The Senior Security Architect is responsible for designing, evaluating, and continuously improving security architecture across the organization’s technology environment. This role sets technical direction for secure-by-design systems, translating business and risk requirements into scalable, resilient architectures. The Senior Security Architect partners across technical and business teams to connect security architecture, engineering delivery, and governance. This role applies a DevSecOps mindset across a large, complex enterprise environment., The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this job but are not intended to be all inclusive. The essential functions include the most significant tasks and are the essence of why the role exists; removing an essential duty would fundamentally alter the role.

  • Design, document, and maintain enterprise security architecture standards across network, cloud, hybrid, and application environments.
  • Translate leadership intent and business priorities into security architecture direction, standards, and scalable designs.
  • Lead the architectural design of layered security controls across enterprise environments.
  • Architect and guide secure configurations for enterprise technology platforms, including identity, network, and workload controls.
  • Partner with infrastructure and engineering teams to review and approve designs for new systems, ensuring security is embedded by design.
  • Promote source control, peer review, automation, policy as code, and traceable change management across security architecture and engineering workflows.
  • Identify dependencies across systems, teams, processes, and documentation.
  • Reconcile fragmented technologies, processes, and competing sources of truth into governed, authoritative standards.
  • Develop reference architectures, reusable design patterns, and technical standards that scale across the enterprise.
  • Evaluate and recommend security technologies and architectural changes to address emerging threats and evolving business needs.
  • Conduct architecture and design reviews for major projects, identifying risks and recommending mitigations.
  • Collaborate with the security operations team to ensure architectural decisions support effective detection, monitoring, and response.
  • Provide technical guidance on secure technology adoption, migration, and integration strategies.
  • Support risk assessments, threat modeling, and security control mapping against industry frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS).
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex network and cloud security design questions.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineering and security team members.

Additional Functions:

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of security architecture policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives and enterprise projects involving infrastructure or cloud transformation.
  • Evaluate emerging threats, technologies, and industry trends to continuously improve the organization’s security architecture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

The knowledge, skills, and abilities which are required to be able to perform the Essential Functions of this position.

  • Deep expertise in enterprise security architecture and layered control design.
  • Strong hands-on experience architecting and securing enterprise technology environments.
  • Solid understanding of secure architecture patterns and modern security tooling.
  • Strong understanding of source control and collaborative Git workflows.
  • Working knowledge of DevSecOps and GitOps principles.
  • Working knowledge of identity and access management concepts as they relate to architecture design.
  • Experience with security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST CSF, CIS Controls, Zero Trust Architecture).
  • Ability to translate business and compliance requirements into practical, scalable technical architectures.
  • Strong systems-level and enterprise-architecture thinking across complex technology environments.
  • Ability to bring disparate organizational and technical components together into scalable, governed patterns.
  • Strong understanding of threat modeling and risk-based architectural decision-making.
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
