Job description

AERMOR is seeking a Network Specialist-Cable Plant I who will support the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) Network Manager in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of the NSWC PCD network infrastructure, including RDT&E and NMCI networks. The specialist will assist in diagnosing physical network connectivity problems and working with a broad range of telecommunications cabling media, including fiber optic, Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP), coaxial, and main feeder cables. This role is critical in ensuring efficient network installations and infrastructure maintenance., * Assist in the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of telecommunications cabling, including fiber optic, UTP, coaxial, and main feeder cable.

  • Install cable racks, conduit, Panduit, and other support structures to ensure the protection and aesthetics of cables.
  • Test cables for signal quality, continuity, and availability to maintain optimal performance.
  • Perform cable plant troubleshooting, fabrication, and installation, including CAT5/6, RJ-11, RJ-45 terminations, and fiber optic connections.
  • Repair and troubleshoot media converters, copper/fiber modems, and other cable plant infrastructure components.
  • Pull telecommunications cabling through various building architectures, including Protected Distribution Systems, buried conduit (outside plant), inter-building routes, ceilings, raised floors, and cable troughs.
  • Support structured cabling infrastructure by ensuring compliance with installation standards and procedures.
  • Collaborate with CP II Network Specialists to ensure proper cable management and installation practices.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams using Microsoft Visio.
  • Document cabling layouts, installations, and updates to ensure accurate network infrastructure records.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of hands-on experience with network cable installation, termination, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of cable plant systems, including copper and fiber optic subsystems used for transmitting electrical and optical signals between active communication equipment.
  • Familiarity with cable testing, including signal continuity and availability testing.
  • Ability to work with various cabling media, including fiber optics, UTP, and coaxial cables.
  • Understanding of building cable routing, including protected and buried conduits.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a structured IT environment.
