Job description
The Senior SQL Engineer will lead the design, optimization, support, and continuous improvement of mission-critical SQL Server environments supporting healthcare operations. This role is responsible for database architecture, performance tuning, ETL development, production support, CI/CD integration, and data governance. The ideal candidate combines deep SQL Server expertise with strong analytical, troubleshooting, and stakeholder management skills to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions. Key Responsibilities Database Architecture & Development
- Design, architect, and optimize SQL Server databases supporting high-volume healthcare systems.
- Develop advanced T-SQL solutions including stored procedures, triggers, views, functions, and indexing strategies.
- Design scalable database structures supporting operational and analytical workloads.
- Drive database architecture decisions including normalization, partitioning, and schema evolution.
Performance Tuning & Optimization
- Lead SQL Server performance tuning initiatives.
- Analyze execution plans, query performance, and database workloads.
- Optimize database structures, indexing strategies, and SQL code.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks impacting system performance and availability.
- Monitor database performance and recommend long-term improvements.
ETL & Data Integration
- Design, develop, and support ETL processes using SSIS and custom frameworks.
- Manage data ingestion, transformation, and delivery processes.
- Support integration of healthcare data across multiple applications and platforms.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity throughout data movement processes.
DevOps & Database Deployments
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
- Implement version control, automated deployments, rollback procedures, and release management processes.
- Support database modernization and automation initiatives.
- Utilize Git, Jenkins, and related DevOps tools.
Production Support & Operations
- Support production SQL Server environments and mission-critical applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database, application, and integration issues.
- Monitor overnight jobs, scheduled tasks, and automated processes.
- Manage incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Support after-hours deployments and maintenance activities as needed.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor junior developers and database professionals.
- Conduct code reviews and establish SQL development standards.
- Partner with business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Lead technical demonstrations and solution reviews.
- Work closely with development, infrastructure, vendor, and business teams.
Governance & Documentation
- Maintain database documentation, operational procedures, and data flow diagrams.
- Support data governance, security, compliance, and audit requirements.
- Document system dependencies, support processes, and database standards.
- Participate in strategic technology planning initiatives.
Requirements
Senior Level (5+ Years SQL Engineering Experience), * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in SQL Server database engineering or related roles.

- Experience with SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Experience building and supporting ETL solutions using SSIS or similar technologies.

- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Jenkins, and automated deployment processes.
- Strong understanding of the Microsoft technology stack, including .NET and Visual Studio.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of healthcare insurance, payer, provider, PBM, or PPO experience.
- Experience with healthcare data standards and regulatory environments.
- Experience with enterprise data warehousing solutions.
- Experience with LAMP stack technologies.
- Experience with Jira and Agile project environments.
- Experience supporting third-party healthcare integrations.
- Experience managing large-scale healthcare data platforms.
