Job description

The Part-time BI & Data Analyst-II (BIDA-II) works cooperatively with other RDA team members, IT, and business unit stakeholders to manage, analyze, interpret, and report on data to contribute to AAAS’s strategic planning, business goals and overall mission. In a team setting, the BIDA-II will implement data and analytics projects. This will include:

  • Building data pipelines in AWS that support Power BI datasets and reports
  • Curating datasets and reports in Power BI (PBI).
  • Supporting business analysts in the development of PBI reports and dashboards.
  • Documenting data pipelines.
  • Participating in efforts to identify and pilot test tools and technology that will advance our data infrastructure and data governance.
  • Participate in rotating QC and data pipeline breakage duties.

The BIDA-II may also be tasked with conducting Internet searches to identify best practices or common policies related to Business Intelligence (BI), data governance, AWS data pipelines, and mentoring analysts in other departments in how to build and modify Power BI datasets and reports.

What You’ll Do

Contribute to Data and Analytics Infrastructure

  • Add data from various sources to the AWS ETL Platform, named the Reporting & Analytics Platform (RAP)
  • Write fast and performant database queries using a flavor of SQL Server to pull data into PBI.
  • Develop fast and efficient .pbix files that produce accurate and reliable data
  • Curate PBI datasets, reports, and dashboards
  • Continuously monitor data quality and develop processes to improve accuracy and completeness.
  • Support business analysts in the development of PBI reports and dashboards.
  • Maintain documentation of data pipelines, datasets and reports
  • Participate in efforts to identify and pilot test tools and technology that will advance our data infrastructure and data governance.

Project Implementation

  • Plan and implement projects across the lifecycle (conception/initiation, planning, execution, and closeout).
  • Create and maintain project plans to ensure timely delivery to internal customers.
  • Manage resources to ensure projects are completed on time and in budget.

Requirements

  • BA/BS with at least two years of experience working with large, complex datasets using SQL and R, or MS degree from an accredited college or university in data science, statistics, social science, business administration, or a mathematical discipline.
  • Proficient with Excel and slide deck software (e.g., Power Point, Canva, Google Slideshow Maker).
  • Proficient with AWS ETL tools (including but not limited to Glue, Lambda, Iceberg, and Athena)
  • Proficient with: R, Python, SQL, Pyspark.
  • Proficient with data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Google Data Studio).
  • Familiar with methods for addressing missing data and other data quality concerns.
  • Familiar with ETL best practices.
  • Experience with data management, analysis, interpretation; and report writing.
  • Experience summarizing research methodologies and results of analyses.
  • Experience developing visually compelling reports and dashboards that reveal key trends in the data.
  • Knowledge of research design, qualitative, and quantitative research methods.

Benefits & conditions

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this positions is $40 per hour with a term length of six months.
