Job description
The Director, Technology Services (IT), provides leadership, direction, and accountability for AMC’s IT operations, engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure, service delivery, and IT vendor portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring secure, reliable and scalable technology services that support AMC’s business operations and client needs.
The Director leads a team of senior technical and operational leaders, setting priorities, managing risk, allocating resources, and driving continuous improvement across the technology portfolio.
Responsibilities:
Technology Operations & Service Delivery Leadership
- Provide leadership and accountability for AMC’s IT operations, help desk performance, and IT service management practices.
- Ensure infrastructure performance, reliability, business continuity, and disaster recovery needs are appropriately prioritized, resourced, documented, and reviewed.
- Establish documentation and governance standards across infrastructure, security, architecture, and operations while monitoring technology performance and leading continuous improvement initiatives.
Engineering and Technical Leadership
- Provide strategic direction and executive sponsorship for technology architecture, SaaS integration, workflow automation, data architecture, and modernization planning.
- Ensure engineering standards and technical roadmaps are aligned with business needs, cybersecurity requirements, operational readiness, and product delivery priorities.
- Identify and prioritize modernization initiatives, automation opportunities, and emerging technologies.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Oversee cybersecurity operations, vulnerability management, incident response readiness, remediation planning, and security tooling strategy.
- Translate external assessments and recommendations into actionable plans.
- Sponsor the selection and governance of security technologies ensuring implementation by the appropriate technical owners.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate technology risks and ensure compliance with security requirements.
Financial and Vendor Management
- Own the Technology Services (IT) budget, including capital expenditures, operating expenses, licensing, contracts, and staffing.
- Recommend technology investments aligned with business priorities.
- Provide portfolio-level leadership for AMC’s IT vendor landscape across infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, telephony, endpoint, and productivity platforms.
- Maintain visibility into IT licensing, subscriptions, hardware leases, and vendor spend.
- Support long-term planning for infrastructure modernization, technical debt reduction, cybersecurity maturity, and vendor cost management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with IT team and client leaders to align technology priorities, engineering capacity, infrastructure readiness, and security requirements with product delivery.
- Serve as a trusted advisor across AMC on technology strategy, operational resilience, cybersecurity, and technology investments.
Managerial Responsibilities
- Directly lead a team of senior functional leaders across engineering, service delivery, data, and vendor and configuration management, navigating a matrixed structure that includes dotted-line technical leadership from the Senior Technical Architect., * This is a hybrid role in Schaumburg, IL. Employees who reside within 50 miles of the office are expected to work onsite one day per month. At times, there may be circumstances that require additional visits to the office.
- Out-of-state candidates may be considered for a remote opportunity, depending on the state in which they reside.
- Applicants must be located and authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future. We are not able to sponsor candidates requiring work authorization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, business, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience
- 5+ years of experience managing teams, senior professionals, or matrixed technical functions
- Demonstrated ability to lead through functional experts rather than personally performing all technical work
- Experience overseeing several of the following: technology operations, infrastructure, cybersecurity, vendor management, and service delivery
- Strong budgeting, strategic planning and people leadership skills
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to executive leadership and non-technical audiences, * Experience in client-services, managed services, multi-tenant, association management, consulting, nonprofit, or higher education
- Experience leading or sponsoring cybersecurity, infrastructure modernization, digital transformation, or cloud initiatives
- ITIL, CISSP, CISM, Azure Security Engineer, AWS or similar credentials
Travel and Physical Requirements
- Minimal travel, primarily within the Chicago area for on-site AMC needs, vendor meetings, or client-related activity.
- This role is primarily desk-based and involves extended computer use, including typing, data review, and virtual communication. Occasional light lifting may be required. AMC provides reasonable accommodation to support employees in performing the essential functions of the role.
