Job description

Responsible for designing, implementing, developing, and maintaining software and database tools for applications dedicated to data processing and analysis for research, clinical, and administrative activities, including advanced bioinformatics pipelines and cloud-based solutions. Responsible for the supervision of software developers., * Collects functional design requirements and leads the design of the solutions.

  • Creates and/or supervises the generation of prototypes for client engagement.
  • Designs secure and reliable technical solutions and defines their testing plan.
  • Coordinates troubleshooting of issues, the identification of root causes and defines solutions.
  • Documents the design and implementation process and makes sure that complete documentation of the code and APIs as well as instructions to users are generated and made available.
  • Ensures that version control tools are used by the team.
  • Plans meetings and makes sure that deadlines and schedules are met. Elicits constructive feedback from the team.
  • Understands expectations that were set with client; recognizes and communicates when issues/event may affect delivery.
  • Shares acquired skills with team members through formal and informal channels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Experience in developing pipelines using workflow language (e.g. Nextflow) and messaging services (e.g. Kafka).

Experience in using a cloud environment (e.g. Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).

Previous experience with implementing multi-user client/server technologies and working knowledge of system integration of web-based and native GUI front ends with relational databases.

Experience working with large data sets and analysis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to develop secure, reliable, scalable applications.
  • Knowledge of and experience in software development using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, XML, C, C++, Qt, Matlab, Python, Java & R.
  • Sufficient experience to maintain existing applications built using Java, JDBC and JSP, and to extend their functionality as needed.
  • Ability to write multi-threaded highly concurrent code utilizing Matlab, OpenMP, CUDA, C++, AMP, MPI or GPGPU.
  • Ability to write effective stored procedures and readiness to write stored procedures in Sybase, MS SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL databases.
  • Proficiency with generating optimal data structures and with physical and logical database design.
