Job description

As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer within the Agentic AI team at Zillow, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the company’s AI-driven customer experiences. Your primary responsibility will be to develop large-scale, fault-tolerant multimodal agentic systems that serve millions of users. You will design and implement multiple interaction modes, including Voice AI and Deep Research, to enhance user engagement and satisfaction. Additionally, you will pioneer evaluation frameworks, safety guardrails, and tracing systems to ensure the trustworthiness and responsibility of our AI agents. Staying at the forefront of emerging agentic paradigms, you will translate cutting-edge research into innovative product features. Leading complex, cross-functional initiatives, you will bridge the gap between research and scalable engineering, distilling complex findings into actionable insights for stakeholders across the organization. This role offers the flexibility of remote work, allowing you, * Develop and deploy large-scale, fault-tolerant multimodal AI systems that improve customer engagement

  • Design and implement multiple interaction modalities, including Voice AI and Deep Research capabilities
  • Establish and maintain evaluation frameworks, safety protocols, and tracing systems to ensure AI trustworthiness and safety
  • Stay updated with emerging agentic AI paradigms and convert innovations into product features
  • Lead multi-team projects, coordinating efforts between research and engineering teams to deliver scalable solutions
  • Translate complex research findings and AI architectures into clear insights for diverse audiences, including executives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure AI systems meet business and technical requirements

Requirements

to operate from a location of your choice within the United States, with competitive compensation and equity opportunities based on experience and performance., * A master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on multimodal large language models (LLMs)

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience deploying large-scale machine learning models, with at least 2-3 years focused on agent-based systems, multi-agent collaboration, or similar paradigms
  • Proven experience developing engaging dialogue systems capable of long conversations, context-aware tool selection, and compliant response generation
  • Experience building AI services capable of handling hundreds of millions of daily interactions with high availability, low latency, and fault tolerance
  • Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph, Agents SDK, AutoGen, and production ML infrastructure
  • Strong publication record, including articles, patents, or high-impact research (a plus)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction and present to executive leadership
