Job description

Job Summary: Tri-State Motor Transit is seeking a motivated and curious Junior Software Developer to join our team in developing innovative automation solutions for the trucking industry. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving real-world problems, collaborating with others, learning new technologies, and building tools that make a meaningful impact on day-to-day operations.

You will develop everything from small automation scripts to sophisticated full-stack applications that streamline processes and improve efficiency. Increasingly, these solutions will leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to extract insights and enable effective work.

Success in this role requires initiative, strong problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work effectively with limited supervision. We’re looking for someone who actively identifies opportunities for improvement, collaborates with users to understand their needs, and takes ownership of delivering practical, high-impact solutions.

  1. Design, develop, and maintain automation tools that improve operational efficiency.

  2. Build solutions ranging from lightweight scripts to sophisticated full-stack web applications.

  3. Work directly with end users to identify opportunities for automation, gather requirements, and refine solutions based on feedback.

  4. Apply cybersecurity best practices throughout the software development life-cycle.

  5. Design, train, evaluate, and deploy AI and machine learning models to solve business challenges.

  6. Develop AI-powered applications utilizing modern machine learning techniques and large language models.

  7. Develop and integrate API’s with internal and third-party systems.

  8. Create business analytics and reporting solutions, including Power BI dashboards.

  9. Maintain, enhance, and support existing applications and automation tools.

  10. Collaborate with teammates using Git-based development workflows.

  11. Deploy and maintain applications using Docker and Linux-based environments.

  12. Research and evaluate emerging technologies, particularly in artificial intelligence and automation, to identify opportunities for business innovation.

Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent and a relevant bachelor’s degree or practical work experience. Skills: Proficiency in Object Oriented Programming (ex: Go, C/C++, Python), SQL, and JavaScript/TypeScript. Knowledge: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with business users. Demonstrates the ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and proactively identify opportunities for improvement. Experience:

· API development and integration

· AI and machine learning model development or implementation

· Secure software development practices

· Git

· Linux development

Security Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearances.

Preferred Qualifications Experience with any of the following is a plus, but not required:

· McLeod Software products, especially LoadMaster and FlowLogix

· Mobile application development

· React/React Native

· Docker

· Power BI

· Experience working with modern AI frameworks, vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or model fine-tuning

· Experience deploying AI workloads in production environments
