Technical Specialist II

1. Install, configure, troubleshoot, repair, and replace hardware and install software for computers.
2. Assist in image deployment.
3. Provide support for Help Desk, as needed.
4. Work closely with other staff in Information Technology as part of a larger support effort for assistance to faculty and staff.
5. Assist in inventory and disposal of hardware projects, as needed.
6. Assist the Audiovisual Equipment Technician with A/V related work and act as back-up for this position, as needed.
7. Provide Tier 2 support, technical assistance, and advice to clients and other users.
8. Field telephone calls and email messages from clients who are seeking guidance on technical problems.
9. Assess users’ issues and map out solutions to resolve those issues.
10. Provide ongoing training for instructors and Help Desk staff in the use of computer software and hardware.
11. Log and update tickets in Help Desk software.
12. Attend training courses to maintain technical skills, as needed.
13. Assist/support other members of the IT Department with their projects and responsibilities.
14. Perform other duties, as assigned., COMPENSATION : $1134.45/week; 37.5 hours/week; Grade 16, Step I. AFSCME Unit Position that includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program. Candidates may qualify for placement above entry-level salary if currently employed in the state system. 1. Associate degree and/or Technical School Certification.
2. Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
3. Proficiency with latest Windows operating systems.
4. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States., 1. Ability to train, schedule, and motivate others.
5. Knowledge of desktop computer repair problems.
6. Experience troubleshooting local area networks.
7. Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with people with all levels of information technology expertise in all employment classifications and organizational levels.
8. Ability to clearly document problems and solutions.
