Job description

The Systems Architect of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation is responsible for oversight of deployed technology solutions for agency business needs and the teams responsible for supporting those solutions. Under the direction of the Chief Information Technology Officer, the Systems Architect will review technology solutions requested by the agency to assess architectural alignment, feasibility, and supportability in alignment with agency and department goals and objectives., * Develop quotes, cost/benefit analysis, and makes purchase recommendations to Chief Information Technology Officer and senior agency staff.

  • Provide inventory management for all agency hardware and software purchases.
  • Oversee the implementation of integrated systems solution in support of agency goals, including operating systems and applications.
  • Provides expert level troubleshooting skills for a wide range of technologies.
  • Perform regular system assessments and upgrades.
  • Manage project timelines and deliverables.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for all systems and applications.
  • Supervises the IT Technical Support unit and makes staff assignments as required to meet agency demands.
  • Provides for staff professional training and development.
  • Evaluates staff performance and takes measures to ensure that staff are operating with necessary tools and skills to make them successful at their job.
  • Good communication along with stakeholder and team collaboration abilities.
  • In alignment with the Chief Information Technology Officer, manage the agency data centers, ensuring policies and requirements for physical security, environmental controls, and electrical needs are all met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field or 8 years of experience in information systems and analysis., * Five years of experience in information systems and analysis or, in lieu of the education requirement, eight years of experience in information systems and analysis. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
  • Minimum of 3 years of IT leadership experience demonstrating increasing responsibility.
  • In depth knowledge of one of the major practice areas of IT (e.g. Application Development, Security, Project Management, etc.)
  • Technical depth in IT operations, vendor management, and service delivery.
  • Fluency in compliance standards (e.g. NIST, ISO, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to manage project oversight under strict timelines

  • As a condition of employment, you will be subject to a pre-employment process to include a polygraph examination, fingerprint based records check, and comprehensive background investigation, including reference check of past and present employers. The pre-employment process will be waived for current KBI personnel who have previously completed the screening requirements
