Job description

Tesla is seeking a senior and influential Audio DSP Algorithms Engineer to help shape the future of our vehicle and robotics audio experience. As a key member of our audio team, you will play a pivotal role in the design and implementation of core audio algorithms. This role requires a deep mathematical foundation in signal processing and a strategic understanding of embedded systems. You will thrive in Tesla’s collaborative, fast-paced environment, contributing to a team dedicated to innovation and spectacular achievement. What You’ll Do

  • Play a key role in designing and developing cutting-edge audio signal processing for next-generation Tesla vehicles and robots, including playback rendering and mic capture processing for human and machine listening
  • Contribute to the architecture of the end-to-end audio processing pipeline, collaborating with the team to define algorithm blocks and their integration
  • Help shape the technical roadmap for audio algorithms by partnering with team members and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Mentor and guide fellow engineers, fostering a shared culture of technical excellence and innovation
  • Act as a subject matter expert on audio algorithms with signal processing and/or machine learning, providing technical guidance and influencing decisions across hardware, software, and acoustics teams
  • Take ownership of key algorithm components through their entire lifecycle, from prototyping in MATLAB/Python to optimized C/C++ implementation and validation
  • Promote and contribute to best practices for algorithm development, tuning, and validation to ensure world-class audio quality
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of machine learning architecture design, data analysis, and training/evaluation methodologies
  • Lead investigations into complex performance issues, working collaboratively to find solutions across the entire tech stack

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in embedded C/C++ programming, board bring-up, profiling, optimization, simulation, and various levels of testing (SW only, HW/SW integration, etc.)
  • 5+ years of expert-level proficiency in MATLAB or Python for algorithm development, simulation, and data analysis
  • 5+ years of experience in machine learning for audio applications in production
  • Strong mathematical skills, including advanced linear algebra, calculus, and optimization
  • A collaborative mindset with demonstrated experience designing and implementing one or more of the following on embedded platforms: beamforming - MVDR, GSC, multichannel Wiener filter - multichannel blind source separation, acoustic echo cancellation, noise suppression, Kalman filter, adaptive filters
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a desire to innovate in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and proven track record of contributing to and leading complex technical projects
  • Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical concepts and work effectively with cross-functional team members to reach fact-based decisions
  • Deep signal processing intuition regarding time/frequency duality, discrete-time signal processing, and implementation on fixed/floating-point architectures
  • Solid acoustics intuition, understanding audio quality & evaluation, including objective and subjective methods
  • Experience with the following is a plus: signal detection and estimation, spatial audio, crosstalk cancellation, wind noise suppression, blind dereverberation, direction of arrival estimation, acoustic event detection, keyword spotting, Pytorch or Tensorflow, machine learning for embedded systems, full development cycle from model design to deployment

Benefits & conditions

Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:

  • Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction
  • Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits
  • Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution
  • Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits
  • Company paid Basic Life, AD&D
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period)
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays
  • Back-up childcare and parenting support resources
  • Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance
  • Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs
  • Tesla Babies program
  • Commuter benefits
  • Employee discounts and perks program

Expected Compensation $140,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
