Job description
BLS IT, Inc. is looking for an IT Support Engineer to join our growing MSP team. This role is a step up from traditional L1/L2 help desk work - we need someone whoâs already mastered the fundamentals and is hungry to build deeper expertise in networking, servers, and virtualization while continuing to deliver hands-on, white-glove support to our clients. This is a great fit for someone who wants to grow into a senior engineer or systems administrator role.
Candidates should be local to the North Shore (Malden, Salem, and surrounding communities) and available to travel to client sites throughout the region as needed.
What Youâll Do
- Serve as an escalation point for L1/L2 help desk issues, resolving tickets involving Windows/Mac endpoints, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, networking, and general troubleshooting
- Interface directly with clients on-site and remotely - youâre often the face of BLS IT, so professionalism and clear communication matter as much as technical skill
- Install, configure, and maintain servers, virtual machines (Hyper-V/VMware), and core infrastructure
- Support and troubleshoot business-class networking equipment: switches, firewalls, routers, VPNs, and Wi-Fi
- Manage backups, patching, and monitoring across client environments
- Travel to client sites across the North Shore for on-site support, installs, and projects
- Document work clearly in our PSA/ticketing system and contribute to internal knowledge base articles
- Take ownership of problems end-to-end - identify root cause, not just symptoms
- Mentor junior help desk staff as needed
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience at an MSP (required) - you understand multi-client environments, ticketing systems, and SLAs
- Strong L1/L2 help desk foundation: OS troubleshooting, printers, Office 365, user account management, endpoint security
- Real, hands-on experience with networking - VLANs, firewalls, switches, basic routing, Wi-Fi troubleshooting
- Experience with servers and virtualization (Windows Server, Hyper-V, or VMware)
- Comfortable working directly with clients - explaining technical issues in plain language, managing expectations, representing the company well
- A self-starter mentality - you donât wait to be told what to do next
- Valid driverâs license and reliable transportation; willingness to travel to client sites across the North Shore
- Based in or near Malden/Salem/North Shore, MA
- Eagerness to grow - this role has a clear path toward senior engineer / sysadmin responsibilities
Nice to Have
- Relevant certifications (CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft, or similar)
- Experience with RMM/PSA tools (ConnectWise, Datto, N-able, etc.)
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS)
- Basic scripting (PowerShell), * High school or equivalent (Required)
Experience:
- MSP: 2 years (Required)
- Desktop support: 1 year (Required)
- Server management: 1 year (Required)
- Computer networking: 1 year (Required)
License/Certification:
- CCNA (Preferred)
