Job description

This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure solutions to support the needs of UMass Memorial Health. This role requires a strong understanding of cloud computing technologies, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

I. Major Responsibilities:

  1. Acts as a technical leader and mentor to up and coming team members.
  2. Effectively articulates recommended solutions to project teams, management, and executive leadership.
  3. Takes lead on large projects, initiatives, and complex changes.
  4. Designs, implements, and maintains cloud infrastructure solutions that follow industry best practices and meet organizational requirements.
  5. Configures and deploys cloud services, including virtual machines, storage databases, network, and security components.
  6. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to define cloud architecture best practices and standards.
  7. Monitors and optimizes cloud infrastructure performance, availability, and security.
  8. Automates deployment, configuration, and management tasks using scripting or automation tools.
  9. Performs regular security assessments and implement measures to protect cloud-based systems and data.
  10. Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues related to cloud infrastructure and applications.
  11. Stays up to date with the latest trends and advancements in cloud computing technologies.
  12. Provides guidance and support to other team members on cloud-related projects and initiatives.
  13. Documents system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing and training purposes.
  14. Designs and implements disaster recovery plans for disasters and backup and recovery solutions for data loss scenarios.
  15. Monitors usage and spending, identify cost-savings opportunities, and implement strategies to optimize costs while maintaining performance/reliability.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or 5 years of related industry experience

Preferred:

  1. AWS Certified Solutions Architect
  2. Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect
  3. Google Cloud Certified - Professional Cloud Architect

Experience/Skills:

Required:

  1. Minimum seven (7) years of related system administration and/or systems engineering experience.
  2. Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure solutions using platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or VMware Cloud (VMC).
  3. Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts, including virtualization, containers, microservices, and serverless architecture.
  4. Experience with cloud automation and orchestration tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
  5. Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, and firewalls.
  6. Familiarity with security best practices for cloud environments, including identify and access management, encryption, and compliance standards.
  7. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and drive resolution.
  8. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred:

  1. Experience with managing VMware vCenter and HorizonView.
  2. Experience with managing HPE servers, blade chassis, and 3Par storage arrays.
  3. Experience with managing Cisco Nexus switches.
  4. Experience with managing Checkpoint firewalls.
  5. Experience with managing Big IP F5 Load balancers.

This position is required to participate in a 24 x 7 on-call rotation.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
