Java Engineer

This individual will join a large-scale banking and payments modernization initiative focused on transforming legacy platforms into modern Java-based microservices and API-driven solutions. The engineer will work closely with architects, product teams, technical leads, and offshore development resources to define solution designs, create technical roadmaps, and accelerate platform delivery. This role requires a combination of hands-on Java development, solution design expertise, and payments domain knowledge, specifically around ACH and payment rails. The environment is highly collaborative, requiring frequent interaction with onsite and offshore teams while helping establish modern engineering practices, cloud adoption, and event-driven architecture.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Collaborate with architects, technical leads, and product teams to define modernization strategies and solution roadmaps.

• Design and develop Java/Spring Boot microservices and REST APIs supporting payment platform modernization initiatives.

• Participate in architecture discussions ranging from high-level design concepts to detailed solution reviews.

• Evaluate existing legacy applications and create plans to migrate functionality to modern Java-based services.

• Build event-driven integrations leveraging Kafka and messaging-based architectures.

• Work with cloud-based platforms including PCF and cloud-native deployment patterns.

• Support database modernization efforts involving PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and DB2 environments.

• Mentor and provide technical guidance to a team of approximately 15 Java developers across onsite and offshore teams.

• Drive ACH and payment rail modernization efforts while improving platform performance and scalability.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and execution efficiency.

• 7+ years of experience developing enterprise applications using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.

• 5+ years of experience leading solution design efforts, creating technical roadmaps, and working directly with architects.

• 5+ years of experience within payments, banking, ACH processing, or payment rails environments.

• Strong experience modernizing legacy applications into Java microservices and REST API architectures.

• Production experience with Kafka or similar event-driven messaging technologies.

• Experience working with GCP or PCF (Pivotal Cloud Foundry) and cloud modernization initiatives.

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and/or DB2 databases in enterprise environments. * Experience with NACHA, RTP, FedNow, Fedwire, SWIFT, or other payment networks.

• Experience supporting large financial services organizations.

• Hands-on experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot.

• Experience leading onsite/offshore delivery teams, including teams located in Hyderabad.

• Scrum leadership experience or experience working closely with Agile organizations.
