AI Engineer (Cyber-Defense)

A startup technology company is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to join its team in a fully onsite role in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of professional software/ML engineering experience, with a background in building and deploying AI/LLM-powered applications and exposure to areas such as agentic AI, multi-agent systems, orchestration, fine-tuning, model evaluation, and autonomous decision-making. Experience with Python, PyTorch, and a modern ML stack is wanted, and prior work with multi-modal systems, air-gapped or classified environments, and building agents that operate in adversarial or contested environments is preferred. A U.S. security clearance is not required but is a bonus. Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of professional experience
• Experience with Python, PyTorch, and ML stack
• Hands-on experience building autonomous agentic AI systems
• Deep familiarity with how frontier models behave
• Rigorous instincts on the data side
• Knowledge of running models on constrained hardware, Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future.
