Job description

The Applications Analyst III is a senior business specialist and technology generalist responsible for aligning technology solutions with business strategy. This role proactively identifies opportunities to apply technology to business processes, advising stakeholders on system functionality, cost, benefit, and implementation requirements. The Applications Analyst III serves as a technical liaison and broker of services with vendors, and acts as an internal consultant on complex projects, bringing both business process expertise and in-depth technical and clinical knowledge to the work., * Collaborate with management, clinical application analysts, and IT staff to define business processes and identify enabling technologies based on customer requirements; serve as liaison between clinical and technical staff.

  • Apply existing technologies to clinical data and applications, researching and communicating technical trends relevant to healthcare delivery.
  • Advise stakeholders on system functionality, cost, benefit, and implementation requirements.
  • Maintain a current understanding of strategic business initiatives and their relationship to IT goals, using structured interviews to establish priorities.
  • Consult with technical experts to develop alternative solutions, weighing options, risks, and cost versus benefit.
  • Conduct business process analyses, needs assessments, and cost benefit measurements; broker IT services; communicate requirements between customers and IT.
  • Develop project plans, including scope, functional and technical specifications, testing, delivery, and support; coordinate implementation resources for successful delivery.
  • Provide effort estimates, assist with project timelines, and ensure on time project delivery.
  • Coordinate multi system solutions to clarify interdependencies and interfaces, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Keep the IT group and client informed of project status, issues, and progress.
  • Evaluate new applications and make recommendations to management as requested.
  • Facilitate priority setting and broker contracts on behalf of customers.
  • Prepare and present formal presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Serve as subject matter expert and internal consultant on assigned applications and business areas.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of application technologies to support requirements gathering and end user education.
  • Mentor new and less experienced applications analysts, including training, task assignment, and project oversight.
  • Participate in an on call support rotation during and outside normal business hours.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Active Epic Beaker Certification required.

Experience

Required (one of the following):

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in business application design, development, and installation, or
  • Significant healthcare background with demonstrated ability in the applications arena.

Preferred:

  • Experience in business process re-engineering or process improvement using broad based information systems and change management tools.
  • Experience applying technology strategically to manage and grow a business.
  • Experience organizing, planning, and executing large scale projects from vision through implementation, involving internal staff, contractors, and vendors.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the assigned business area’s products and processes.
  • Strong technical knowledge with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for business audiences.
  • Strong understanding of project management concepts and documentation across multiple, cross functional projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across all levels and departments.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with a track record in new concept development for complex technical plans.
  • Ability to solve problems spanning multiple environments within a business area.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to sustain a high level of output.
  • Understanding of how IT affects an organization and how to link it to redesigned business processes.
  • Team oriented, flexible, and enthusiastic approach.
  • HL7 knowledge is a plus., * Do you hold an active Epic Beaker Certification?
  • Do you have at least an Associate’s degree?
  • Do you have 3-5 years of experience in business application design, development, and installation, OR a significant healthcare background with demonstrated ability in the applications arena?
  • Are you able to work a hybrid schedule with onsite travel to Boston, MA approximately once per month for key meetings and milestones?
  • Do you have experience with HL7?
