Job description

The System Analyst position at NTS within the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF), presents an exciting opportunity for a tech-savvy individual who thrives on collaboration and problem-solving. As a System Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between technology and organizational objectives. Working closely with cross-functional teams, academic departments, and key stakeholders, you will be responsible for understanding their technology needs and aligning solutions with the overarching goals of UAF. Requirements

We’re looking for a versatile technology professional who enjoys solving complex problems and working across a broad range of enterprise technologies. To thrive in this role you’ll bring:

  • Automation & DevOps: Experience with automation tools such as Chef or Puppet, Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment orchestration.
  • Programming & Web Development: Strong knowledge of at least one programming language, such as Python, Ruby, Perl, Java, or C/C++, along with full-stack web development experience using technologies such as JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, Django, Rails, Flask, Phoenix, or Node.js.
  • Databases & Cloud: Experience with database design and SQL; NoSQL is a plus. AWS experience is preferred, with familiarity with OpenStack, Google Cloud, or Azure also valued.
  • Enterprise Infrastructure: Experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter Server, Horizon View, and ESXi, along with several years supporting Windows Server environments and strong Active Directory knowledge.
  • Networking & Security: Advanced knowledge of computer networking and an understanding of security best practices, including intrusion detection and prevention.
  • Problem-Solving: A demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues in an enterprise environment.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a complex, enterprise-level environment.
  • Experience: At least four years of professional experience in a complex enterprise technology environment., Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience. Relevant experience in System Engineering.

This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.
