Job description

The software engineer II role is to design front end look/feel, code, test, and analyze software programs and applications. This includes researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production lifecycle. The software engineer will also analyze and amend software errors in a timely and accurate fashion and provide status reports where required., * Assist other developers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and developing new software programs and applications

  • Plan individual portions of work within phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC) for a variety of projects
  • Assist in the preparation and documentation of software requirements and specifications
  • Research and document requirements of software users
  • Conduct research on emerging application development software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Interact regularly with managers, clients, vendors, and agencies to field queries and questions
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades
  • Consistently write, translate, and code software programs and applications according to specifications
  • Run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging
  • Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas
  • Generate statistics and prepare and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of user manuals and guidelines
  • Write programming scripts to enhance functionality and/or appearance of company Web site and/or related Web applications as necessary
  • Remove code script from company Web site and/or related Web applications as necessary
  • Liaise with network administrators, systems analysts, and software engineers to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior software developers and research assistants., * The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and office activity.
  • Walking - The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, boxes, cabinets, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, phone, computer, and computer printer.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to office administration.
  • Constantly computes, analyzes, and conceptualizes mathematical calculations and formulas.
  • Constantly reads written communications and views email submissions.
  • The person in this position regularly sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen.
  • Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.
  • Rarely exposed to high and low temperatures
  • Rarely exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

Requirements

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or software engineering, and/or 4 years equivalent work experience
  • Working technical knowledge of one or more of these programming languages, JavaScript/Node/React/Angular, C#/.NET, Python, GraphQL, GIT
  • Experience with Azure Cloud based services
  • Experience with building applications
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL database
  • Solid working knowledge of current Internet technologies
  • Hands-on software troubleshooting experience
  • Knowledge of applicable security and data privacy practices
  • Experience with specific phases of the software development life cycle
  • Familiarity with agile and waterfall software development methodologies
  • Flexible and adaptable in regard to learning and understanding new technologies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to conduct research into software-related issues and products
  • Highly logical
  • Technically proficient
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities., College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or software engineering, and/or 4 years equivalent work experience.

Benefits & conditions

Base Salary Range: $74,000.00 - $81,000.00 USD (Colorado Only), Hensel Phelps provides generous benefits for our salaried employees. This position is eligible for company paid medical insurance, life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment, long-term disability, 401(K) retirement plan, health savings account (HSA) (HSA not available in Hawaii), and our employee assistance program (EAP). It also is eligible for employee paid enrollment in vision and dental insurance. Hensel Phelps also believes in the importance of taking time to recharge. As a result, salaried employees are eligible for paid time off beginning upon hire. Salaried positions (project engineers and above) participate in an annual bonus plan, subject to company and employee performance. Salaried employees (this is all salaried employees) are also eligible for a company cell phone or cell phone allowance in accordance with company policy.
