Job description

The Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) organization is expanding, and we are seeking a Senior Manager, Observability Engineering to define and execute our enterprise-wide observability vision. In this strategic leadership role, you will transition our organization beyond reactive monitoring to build a proactive, telemetry-driven engineering organization across our large-scale multi-cloud and co-location footprint.

Working closely with senior technology leadership, cross-functional IT teams, and business units, you will establish modern observability standards for our hybrid cloud datacenter model. A primary focus of this position will be scaling and guiding a high-performing team of engineers dedicated to full-stack visibility, telemetry instrumentation, and actionable insights during our architectural modernization and migration of legacy on-premises workloads into Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Strategic Mission & Organizational Impact

  • Engineering & People Leadership: Build, mentor, and empower a high-performing engineering organization while driving a cultural shift toward proactive, data-driven observability across all of IT.
  • Everything as Code: Lead the adoption of repository-led management across public and private cloud environments to establish consistent, version-controlled observability pipelines, dashboards, and alerting rules while eliminating configuration drift.
  • Engineering over Toil: Empower teams to heavily leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Observability as Code (OaC) to automate instrumentation and establish smooth “paved roads” for product engineering teams.
  • Telemetry-Driven Architecture: Shift operational paradigms from siloed component monitoring to full-stack, user-centric observability-leveraging metrics, logs, and distributed traces to establish meaningful SLIs, SLOs, and proactive alerting.
  • Modernization & Cloud Migration: Partner across engineering organizations to integrate deep visibility, performance optimization, and telemetry frameworks into legacy service re-architecting and GCP redeployments.

Location & Sponsorship Notice:

This position may be worked remotely within the United States, with the exception of California.

This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship and support. Please do not apply if at any time you will need immigration support now or in the future (i.e., H-1B, PERM). All positions, regardless of location, may require an onsite interview or in-person onboarding requirement to verify your identity.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Talent Leadership & Team Development: Direct, recruit, and mentor Senior/Staff Observability Engineers and technical leads. Champion a blameless, data-driven culture, set strategic objectives, and actively guide professional career development across the team.
  • Enterprise Observability Vision: Lead the strategic roadmap for enterprise observability, transitioning Jack Henry from fragmented legacy tools to an integrated, OpenTelemetry-native telemetry ecosystem.
  • Architectural Oversight & GCP Migration: Drive observability requirements and instrumentation standards into the multi-cloud architecture, ensuring deep visibility into workloads migrating from on-premises datacenters to GCP.
  • Financial & Tooling Governance: Manage vendor relationships, enterprise licensing, and cloud telemetry spend. Optimize data retention policies and ingestion costs across GCP and hybrid environments to balance visibility with financial efficiency.
  • Technology & Platform Governance: Serve on Architecture and Technology Review Committees to advocate for Observability-as-Code standards, OpenTelemetry adoption, hybrid cloud roadmaps, and platform engineering best practices.
  • Operational Excellence & SLO Frameworks: Partner with product engineering leaders to implement meaningful Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs), drastically improving Mean Time to Detection (MTTD) and Resolution (MTTR). May perform other duties assigned.
  • Capacity & Telemetry Forecasting: Forecast infrastructure and storage needs for high-cardinality telemetry data, manage departmental resource allocation, and budget for major platform initiatives.
  • Security & DevSecOps Integration: Partner with security teams to ensure all telemetry pipelines, audit logs, and automated deployments adhere to strict regulatory compliance and data protection standards.
  • Industry Leadership: Stay ahead of industry shifts in OpenTelemetry, platform engineering, and enterprise observability by representing Jack Henry at key technology summits and conferences., No one will be subject to, and Jack Henry prohibits, any form of discipline, reprisal, intimidation, or retaliation for good faith reports or complaints of discrimination of any kind, pursuing any discrimination claim, or cooperating in related investigations.

Requests for full corporate job descriptions may be requested through the interview process at any time.
