Job description

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to support the day-to-day operations of our data center in Charlotte, NC. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and decommissioning server, storage, and network infrastructure while ensuring maximum uptime and adherence to operational standards. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment and is committed to maintaining the highest levels of reliability, safety, and customer service., * Install, rack, stack, cable, label, and decommission servers, network equipment, and storage devices.

  • Perform hardware diagnostics, repairs, and component replacements, including hard drives, memory, power supplies, and network interface cards.
  • Execute scheduled maintenance activities, equipment upgrades, and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor environmental systems, power infrastructure, and equipment health to ensure optimal performance.
  • Respond to incidents, service requests, and emergency outages in accordance with established SLAs.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, connectivity, and infrastructure issues independently or in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for assets, cable management, rack elevations, and operational procedures.
  • Support inventory management, equipment receiving, staging, and asset tracking.
  • Perform structured cabling installations, testing, and cable management following industry best practices.
  • Assist with data center expansion projects, equipment migrations, and infrastructure deployments.
  • Follow change management procedures and document all work performed.
  • Maintain compliance with security, safety, and operational policies.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a data center, IT infrastructure, or hardware support environment.
  • Experience installing and supporting enterprise servers, storage systems, and network equipment.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards and cable management best practices.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux server hardware.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, VLANs, switches, routers, and patch panels.
  • Experience using ticketing systems and documenting technical work.
  • Ability to read rack elevations, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or Server+ certification.
  • Experience supporting VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms.
  • Familiarity with enterprise hardware from Dell, HPE, Cisco, Lenovo, or similar manufacturers.
  • Experience working in Tier II, Tier III, or Tier IV data center environments.
  • Knowledge of DCIM tools and asset management systems.
  • Understanding of UPS systems, PDUs, cooling infrastructure, and physical security controls.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated platforms when necessary.
  • Ability to work in a data center environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
