Construction Manager - Telecommunications-Inside Plant Construction (ISP)

Job Summary: Backbone Construction is seeking an experienced Traveling Construction Manager - Inside Plant (ISP) to oversee the construction and installation of inside plant telecommunications projects. This role is responsible for managing field operations, coordinating subcontractors and customers, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and delivering projects on schedule and within customer specifications. The ideal candidate is a strong field leader with experience managing fiber optic and structured cabling installations in commercial buildings and multi-dwelling units (MDUs)., Field Operations

• Manage daily field operations for Inside Plant (ISP) construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications.
• Coordinate subcontractors, customers, vendors, and internal project teams to support project logistics and maintain construction schedules.
• Manage material procurement by confirming lead times, tracking deliveries, and coordinating with vendors to ensure required materials are available when needed to keep project schedules on track.
• Monitor project progress / quality assurance, identify potential issues (red tagging), and implement solutions to keep projects on track.
• Ensure all work complies with customer requirements, company standards, and applicable regulations.

Project Documentation

• Maintain detailed and accurate daily reports, production tracking, and project documentation.
• Prepare and maintain as-built drawings and project records.
• Track and document change orders in accordance with customer requirements and project specifications.
• Communicate project updates, risks, and schedule changes to company leadership and customers.

Safety & Quality

• Enforce company safety policies and OSHA standards.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Perform routine site inspections and quality control reviews to ensure installation is within specs

• 5+ years of telecommunications construction management experience.
• Experience managing Inside Plant (ISP) construction projects: GPON, XGS-PON, FTTU, FTTN, Managed Wi-Fi .
• Strong technical knowledge of network design and engineering.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications.
• Field engineering experience, ability to review designs and recommend design changes to customers.
• Experience coordinating subcontractors, customers, and multiple project stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard construction documentation.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to travel approximately 80% of the time (typically 3+ weeks per month, depending on project needs)., * Knowledgeable on splicing and testing (Fiber & CAT6)
• Knowledgeable on outside plant (OSP) construction
• Knowledge of Fieldwire Job Site Management Application
• OSHA 30 certification
• Implementation of AI into day-to-day tasks and workflows, * Telecommunications Inside Plant: 3 years (Preferred)
