Job description
HBC Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Operations and Safety Engineer (P.E.) to join our growing traffic and transportation team. This position is ideal for a motivated professional with strong technical expertise in traffic operations, safety analysis, and transportation planning, as well as the ability to lead projects and engage clients effectively.
The selected candidate will play a key role in the planning, analysis, design, and implementation of traffic operations and safety projects, while supporting business development efforts and mentoring junior staff., * Lead and manage traffic operations and safety projects from planning through implementation
- Perform and oversee traffic engineering analyses, including:
- Traffic operations and capacity analysis
- Traffic safety studies and crash analysis
- Signal warrant analyses and optimization
- Corridor, intersection, and network studies
- Develop traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) plans
- Prepare technical reports, design studies, and engineering recommendations for municipal and FDOT clients
- Coordinate with local, county, and federal agencies, including FDOT, counties, and municipalities
- Serve as a primary client contact and clearly communicate technical findings through written reports and oral presentations
- Review plans and studies prepared by junior engineers and provide technical mentorship
- Ensure compliance with applicable local, county, and federal standards and guidelines
- Support proposal development, marketing efforts, and business development initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) licence in the county of Florida (required)
- 8-10 years of progressive experience in traffic operations and safety engineering
- Strong experience with FDOT and municipal traffic standards, manuals, and procedures
- Proficiency with traffic engineering and analysis software such as:
- SYNCHRO / SimTraffic
- HCS
- VISSIM, SIDRA, or similar (preferred)
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation
- Familiarity with traffic safety programs, systemic safety analysis, and crash modification factors (CMFs)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
