Job description

Client seeking an experienced Software Engineer with strong, recent hands-on Modern C++ development experience in a Windows environment.

This is a highly technical, hands-on development position. Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong fundamentals in C++ and answer technical questions involving Modern C++ development in Windows during the interview process.

Recent Windows-based C++ development is critical. Linux-only C++ experience will not meet the requirement.

The team is also incorporating AI-assisted development into its engineering workflows. Deep AI or multi-agent expertise is not required, but candidates should have an interest in AI-assisted software development and some exposure to using AI tools in their work.

Requirements

Modern C++ / Windows - Critical Requirement

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong hands-on development experience with Modern C++
  • Must have been actively coding with Modern C++ in a Windows environment in recent years
  • Strong understanding of core C++ concepts and fundamentals
  • Ability to read, understand, troubleshoot, and debug complex C++ code
  • Ability to evaluate and validate code generated with AI-assisted development tools
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and software engineering skills
  • Windows development experience must be clearly demonstrated on the resume
  • Candidates whose recent C++ experience is primarily or exclusively Linux-based will not qualify

Development & Quality

  • Experience with Behavior-Driven Development (BDD)
  • Strong understanding of software development and testing best practices
  • Ability to identify defects, troubleshoot issues, and validate code quality
  • Strong quality-first engineering mindset
  • Ability to work within established engineering standards and development processes

AI-Assisted Development

Candidates do not need extensive AI or multi-agent development experience.

However, candidates should demonstrate:

  • General curiosity and interest in incorporating AI into software development
  • Some hands-on exposure to AI-assisted development tools
  • Understanding of how AI can assist with coding, debugging, documentation, testing, or development workflows
  • Ability and willingness to learn and adopt new AI-enabled development practices

Exposure to tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI tools, or similar AI coding/development tools is beneficial.

Additional Technical Experience

Experience with the following is beneficial:

  • Python for scripting, automation, testing, or development workflows
  • GitHub Copilot, Copilot CLI, Claude, or similar development tools
  • Spec-driven development, including translating requirements into structured technical specifications and using those specifications to guide development

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Payments or payment-processing systems
  • Point-of-Sale (POS) systems
  • Payment certification experience
  • Development within compliance-heavy or highly regulated environments
  • Python
  • AI-assisted software engineering workflows
  • OpenAI development tools
