Job description

SMS is looking for a Wide Area Network (WAN) Administrator to support AFCENT Enterprise Network 24/7 communication efforts ensuring the reliable maintenance and operation of WAN transport in theater for AFCENT team members and customers to execute their operational missions.

AFCENT’s mission is to deliver combat-ready air, space, communications, and cyberspace capability for USCENTCOM, helping maintain security and stability throughout Southwest Asia. We support the AFCENT Commander, USCENTCOM, coalition and joint partners, and warfighters who rely on NIPRNet, SIPRNet, partner networks, and other command-and-control systems. The AFCENT NOSC program is focused on running and protecting a 24/7 enterprise network and systems operations, including cybersecurity, engineering, maintenance, and technical support, keeping the AFCENT’s theater communications and IT infrastructure ready, secure, and available to effectively execute the AFCENT mission., * Provide 24/7 WAN Transport Operations Support.

  • Troubleshoot and develop solutions with LAN/WAN protocols such as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP).
  • Configure, monitor and trouble-shoot IP/MPLS backbone network.
  • Assist with the installation and configuration of existing and new WAN transport systems as directed.
  • Develop standardized testing and cutover plans for AFCENT WAN new equipment.
  • Establish testing and remote monitoring procedures to ensure reliable operation of WAN transport in theater.
  • Collect networking metrics for analysis to determine sub-standard network performance both remotely and locally.
  • Analyze a myriad of networking metrics and recognize sub-par network performance.
  • Configuring and troubleshooting QOS involving policing, shaping and queuing.
  • Report system and network documented finds for analysis and trending of bandwidth and network security incidents.
  • Provide first-level technical support to AFCENT users, escalates complex problems as required.
  • Act as a consultant and provide feedback to the government to optimize the WAN transport networks.
  • Identify and evaluate the operational impact of all outages.
  • Coordinate with external agencies for outage resolution as required by local policy.
  • Perform notifications when outages occur IAW local policies, notification matrix, and any other SOPs, policy, and instructions.
  • Support creation of daily AFCENT communication status report as required.
  • Provide General Networking support.
  • Provide LAN support.
  • Provide WAN Enterprise support.
  • Provide technical and general O&M support as required.
  • Provide documentation/reports support as required.
  • Provide meetings/briefings support as required.
  • Provide functional training support as required.
  • Provide OCONUS deployment/TDY travel support as required.
  • Provide CONUS TDY support as required.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years’ relevant experience.
  • Firewall experience.
  • LAN and WAN Enterprise support experience.
  • Must possess experience and demonstrate an understanding of Microsoft server installation, roles, active directory, storage, performance management, and maintenance.

Certifications Required

  • CCNA

  • ITIL Foundation (candidate has up to 60 days to acquire ITIL Foundation certification)

Clearance Required

  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance
