Job description
We are seeking an experienced Microsoft 365 / SharePoint Online Governance & Copilot Readiness Consultant to lead enterprise-wide initiatives focused on SharePoint governance, content lifecycle management, information architecture, security, and Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness. The consultant will work as part of the governance team to design, assess, implement, govern, modernize, and enable Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft 365 Copilot environments for enterprise customers. The key responsibilities of the role include: Content Governance & AI Readiness
- Lead enterprise-wide SharePoint Online governance and Microsoft Copilot readiness engagements.
- Review existing SharePoint Online & MS Teams lifecycle management.
- Review and Implement SharePoint Advanced Management and Data Governance policies.
- Conduct stakeholder workshops to drive decisions around content archival, retention, disposition and modernization.
- Define and document AI-ready criteria for SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 content repositories.
- Create comprehensive SharePoint site inventories with lifecycle and AI-readiness.
- Evaluate sites and content repositories against AI readiness standards and identify remediation activities.
- Perform modernization, migration, archiving and content consolidation strategies.
- Understand and remediate ROT (Redundant, Obsolete and Trivial) data, and oversharing risks.
- Develop frameworks to assess:
- Content quality
- Site structure and information architecture
- Metadata quality
- Ownership coverage
- Permissions posture
- Lifecycle condition
- Copilot readiness
Ownership & Accountability Governance
- Design and implement governance operating models for SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 workloads.
- Validate site ownership and accountability frameworks across business functions.
- Conduct governance workshops with business stakeholders to establish ownership expectations and responsibilities.
- Document formally agreed site owner responsibilities and governance expectations, including RACI models where appropriate.
- Define governance policies for:
- Orphaned sites
- Ownership succession
- Content stewardship

Lifecycle accountability
- Access & Permissions Governance
- Assess SharePoint Online, Teams and OneDrive permissions models.
- Identify oversharing, broken inheritance and excessive permissions risks.
- Collaborate with Security and Compliance teams to improve Copilot security readiness.
- Define governance standards for:
- Permission inheritance
- External sharing
- SharePoint Access reviews
- Secure Sharing Controls
Data Protection & Information Security
- Collaborate with security teams to improve information protection controls across M365.
- Document governance decisions, policy exceptions, dependencies, and implementation roadmaps.
- Review and make necessary changes to:
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies
- Sensitivity Labels
- Secure sharing controls
