Senior Software Engineer, Search AI Quality

Google’s software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. We’re looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward., * Focus on improving Search AI quality in Verticals, specifically Live Events Factuality and Freshness for topics like live sports, stock quotes, weather, and travel.

• Work closely with teams across Search Verticals, Search Intelligence, and DeepMind to address critical quality gaps on high-visibility queries in Search and AI Mode.
• Engage in horizontal factuality quality programs across Search and GDM, and proactively identify new factuality quality gaps within Vertical slices.
• Build or enhance automated evals to speed up error detection and establish self-improvement loops.
• Design and run experiments to enhance quality and minimize errors in AI-generated responses, while actively representing Search Verticals and Infrastructure (SVI) in cross-Search forums.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience programming in one or more general-purpose programming languages including, but not limited to, Java, C/C++, Python, JavaScript, or Go.
• Experience conducting exploratory data analysis using programming languages (e.g., R, Python) and database querying (e.g., SQL).
• Experience evaluating search quality or user interaction data to improve query relevance and search results., * Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
• Experience developing applications using Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic architectures, or Generative AI evaluation methodologies.
• Experience leading technical projects through the full development lifecycle, including design, implementation, experimentation, and deployment.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners to prioritize tasks, execute project workstreams, and communicate progress.
• Experience applying AI-assisted development tools or autonomous agent coding to build and prototype software features., Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
